We had the good fortune of connecting with Yogi Akasha Phoenix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yogi Akasha, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
As a little girl I grew up watching martial arts movies and one of my favorites actors/martial artists was Bruce Lee. One of his quotes became my favorite and what I live to till this day.

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. ~Bruce Lee

What it means to me?

To simply be flexible in both mind, body, soul, and spirit. It’s about not being rigid or stubborn about your spirituality practices, understanding, and instead, about being open-minded and able to change and adapt to the circumstances we are put into. To always know that change does always means bad, but good.

what do you like about it?

It teaches you about adapting and responding positively to stress and adversity. Many of our brightest ideas will come to us not through force, but because we allow them the space to flow. Because I am a wolf and Phoenix it’s about having confidence, strength, and no matter how many times you fall you still rise like a Phoenix cause every day is a new beginning. Something that my SiFi C. Scott taught me. It’s about knowledge, wisdom, and understanding your power and creation.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business name is The Phoenix Alchemy holistic healing and Yoga Wellness. As a domestic violence survivor, yoga has save my life in so many ways and forms. I started my practice about 9 years ago after a bad domestic violence situation and childhood trauma. Because of so much from childhood abuse, domestic violence, suicide survivor and so much more. I turn my trauma into something I wanted to do, something I was deeply passionate about. At a point of my life is where I was at my darkest point of giving up. This is where I started my spiritual practice in Buddhism and traditional African spirituality. That’s when I was introduced to yoga & meditation. In those moments my life began to change.

What I am most proud of and excited about?

Telling my story to other melanin women and melanin young girls who have walked in my shoes and that you are not along because I understand. It’s not easy but you have to keep pushing. I knew my story can help someone else to heal because it was my purpose in life and what I was meant to do. I always say be the light you want the world to see you and that shine bright like a star in the sky. Be different, be weird, be authentic cause no one can take that away from you.

How did I get to where I am today?

Believe in myself that I could do the impossible and that no one else could create my world accept for me. Fighting for what felt good to me and my mental health. So I had to make my business stand out what it means. I wanted to help other melanin women and young girls to tell their stories and healed. In life you have to take those chances. Making decisions, options to weigh, leadership principles to stand by in every case, you want to be able to look back and say “I chose well”. Success will come and go, but integrity and respect is forever.

Live in the moment- Carpe Diem

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

Lessons I have learned is that life is not always golden all the time. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you might get out of it. You’re going to fall down and when you fall down you have to pick yourself up and dust off and do it again. That’s how you learn and that’s the way of life,

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I want the world to know that in life it’s okay not to be okay. Believe in yourself and be the light you want the world to see you. Be free to express yourself. Take time to yourself to heal that’s your self care and self loving. To understand my brand is all about rebirth, transformation, creation, and healing though love.

I deeply respect the efforts and interest to grow and understand more about this most interesting topic and indeed a way of life. Together we look into the heart of Yoga, what it means to practice deeply and make choices that bring harmony to your life and to others too. It is always a joy to share, and extremely rewarding to see the sparkle in the eyes and the light in the hearts of those that take on this most sacred journey. The intention of this journey is to give yourself the tools you need to grow, and provide a depth of understanding that transforms the student into a potential teacher, if you wish to wear that hat. We give our best effort and all our combined experience to help you reach your potential and accept yourself more deeply than before.

I wish to welcome you all to this journey of self-growth and discovery of how Yoga & Meditation can help transform our lives. It’s a special marker in your life when you decide to commit to understanding yourself more clearly and take care of your mental health and well-being. Finding your voice and expression of yoga as a teacher and student is a beautiful way to deepen your understanding and share the blessings of what you’ve learned. To truly convey the heart of yoga & meditation, one requires to live a life of yoga & meditation day by day by practice consistently for sometime and grasp the most subtle of understandings, the nature of oneself. Our exploration together spans over 9 months, like a pregnancy, we grow in the womb of Yoga practices and assimilated life values, cultivating healthy habits and emotional stability and open heart. We move, twerk, chant, dance, sing, pray, stretch, breathe, challenge, accept, assimilate, invigorate and learn to listen to our hearts. On behalf of The Phoenix Alchemy family we are honored and inspired to share with you what has profoundly blessed my life in every way and how yoga change and saved my life.

Love, Peace, and Prosperity,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a free spirit bohemian melanin hippie and I love being out in nature, I’m also a plant mom also. So it would be hiking at cedar hill preserves, rolling skating at the rinks and downtown Dallas, white rock lake, the farmers market, the plant shops, to some of the plant shop I frequently visit. Go to some of my favorite foodie places likes Vegan Vibrationz, pappadueax, Glens kitchen, and more.

Some of the most fun, interesting, exciting people, places or things to are the forum skating rink in Grand Prairie on Fridays with DJ Sauve, Red bird skating rink. Check out BodyByOTactical and TracticalSocialWorker LLC, Good footskates, Pan African Connection and more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank those who have been a big part of my life and my journey in who I am today. First of most, I want to thank my children Diamonte, Dialuvunte, and Dialashawn for allow me to be the best mother to them as a single parent. SiFi C. Scott mentor/mix martial arts teacher, Alejandro A.P Perez of the Dallas Malandros Capoeira, KeKe Woods (Twistedyoga) my brother Christopher Burns (RIP), Alice Sneed, and Latisha Thomas. These are people who never gave up on me, understood who I am and kept pushing me because they believed in me and my dreams.
