We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendi D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The main thought behind starting my own business was to create something that stood on my own terms and values. The previous work environments I’ve been in seemed to be built upon guest satisfaction first, while putting the employee last. After years of building experience, I began to develop my own set of professional standards that I felt I wasn’t able to adhere to when working for others. Ultimately investing in myself long term was the reason for starting Touched Beauty N Waxing. I have peace of mind when I am able to manage my own profits while prioritizing my clients and myself equally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a licensed esthetician since about 2018. A LE is usually known as a skin care therapist. Their scope of practice can include other services such as waxing, lash extensions, and makeup application. What sets me apart from other estheticians is the passion to never stop growing in this industry. I consistently study beauty trends to implement them in my business before many others. Since esthetics school I have taken additional courses to expand on the services I offer. Currently im going back to school for nursing, my goal is to become a Registered Nurse and make TBW a medical spa. Getting to this point in my career definitely was not easy. From situations like temporarily quitting esthetics school to never feeling fulfilled working for another salon or spa, it has been a wave of emotions. What makes me strive to keep going is knowing that the possibilities within skin care are almost endless. I love that there is always a new trend out that you can make unique. I am grateful that I have the ability to add to my personal and career growth simultaneously.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question as my best friend is coming out to visit very soon! I have already planned to take her to Oak Lawn area near downtown Dallas where there are many bars and restaurants to explore. Among my favorites there are Sue Ellen and Mr. Misster. In Arlington there is Eso Mimosa bar that has uniquely crafted drinks during brunch, and also doubles as a great scene for nightlife. For food there are so many gems to choose from, but for southern food I love Sweet Georgia Brown or Black Eye Pea. For places to go I always enjoy curated events at Legacy of Love art studio, owned by Tribal life art in Dallas. There are so many great places in DFW, that I am still exploring after being here for 4 years!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Any one who was ever genuinely supported Touched Beauty N Waxing deserves a shout out! I appreciate every family member, friend, client, and the online community that I have. I want to specifically shout out my mom Cheryl. I don’t know if I will ever repay her in this lifetime for all that she has done for me, but I work hard every day trying. I often joke with her about being my business manager as she is always helping me with ideas to improve TBW. I admire her hard work as she is a special education elementary teacher while handling her own businesses.
