We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanity Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanity, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success as an author is honestly prayer. I adore being a children’s book author and I could not do any of this without God’s vision and guidance. I make it a point to incorporate prayer into my business. I pray before I ever write the book. When I get the vision for a subject, I pray. When I start the process of getting the book created, I pray for clarity and discernment. I only want to execute the visions that I feel like God gives me the way He needs me to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a children’s book author and I write books that grow and develop children’s sense of self through family, faith, and friendship. I am so proud of my 4 published children’s books- Jumping Beanie & The Mustard Seed, A Girl and Her Grandpa, A Boy and His Grandpa, and A Crown Like Mine, all of which are available on Amazon!

The journey to publishing my first book, A Girl and Her Grandpa, in 2020, was anything but easy. I have learned so many valuable lessons in the past 4 years. I took a 2-year break between my second and third books, A Crown Like Mine and Jumping Beanie & The Mustard Seed, respectively. I went through job transitions, got married and also had my son. Through life’s transitions, I was able to create Jumping Beanie & The Mustard Seed, a children’s book about courage, friendship and belief. The process to get it over the finish line was stressful and required a lot of faith. I was living in the story that I was able to tell through that book, and I got to co-write it with my wonderful son, Deuce.

I am most proud that I create children’s books not only for kids, but the kid inside of all us, even as adults. These stories have spoken deeply to multiple age groups and that is very special to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I love books, we’d go to Half Price Books, Barnes & Noble, or a local bookstore, then find a cute coffee shop, like Soiree Coffee Bar. I would then take my best friend to Bishop Arts. I’d walk around the shops, listen to live music, and end the day eating at Paradiso.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family absolutely deserves the biggest shoutout! First and foremost, my husband, my thought partner, and biggest supporter is a huge reason that I am able to walk this journey of being an author. Then, my son, who is my biggest inspiration is my biggest motivator to keep going and pursuing my purpose. Lastly, my parents who are such important members of my support system. They listen to my ideas, contribute their thoughts, pray for me, help me promote, and so much more. My dad and mother-in-law are also authors, so they contribute greatly to my motivation to go after it. I couldn’t do this without any of them!
