We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Veloz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Summer of 2020 was filled with intentional alignment for the BLM movement. Personally, I witnessed losing friends and gaining a new mindset towards my creativity. No Hush has been a movement that builds bridges for young adults to tap into passion projects that reveal purposeful outcomes. As I navigated the entrepreneurial journey as a person of color, I realized the process of getting told no and doubting my potential needed to be represented in a community perspective. Creating No Hush Marketplace in August of 2020, I was able to bring hope for black owned businesses and showcase the DFW metroplex of small businesses to support. By starting a movement to curate marketplace events, community and impact has been the foundational process to unlimited opportunities for No Hush.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Staying mindful of attending network events and always being open minded to entering new spaces to connect with new people. Connecting with people is the root of what I do professionally as a Digital Private Client Advisor at Louis Vuitton. Developing relationships is number one in my professional and entrepreneurship career. I am most proud of the resilience in my drive to want to grow in every job. Starting in an entry level position trains you to apply your strengths in a huge way where you are only going to exceed your expectations. I gave myself a goal at each company that I worked at which started with gaining knowledge of my purpose within my time there and created a plan to excel to the next level.

I currently have angled my position as the founder of No Hush, in a way that incorporates my wins from a professional matter and entrepreneurial spirit. The journey definitely consists of coming from a growth mindset and raising the bar high for myself. Working at Louis Vuitton, I have been able to achieve goals overall and continue the impact of creating relationships. No Hush’s DNA is community and impact which stems from a place of seeing growth happen continuously. If I were to tell you that my 5 year journey of finding the career that gives me the space to create and grow came easy, that would not be true! Overcoming the “lost season” involves changing your mindset and applying your strengths in everything that you want to accomplish.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Yess, let’s hit my hometown, Dallas!

First thing is first, coffee and breakfast! I love local owned coffee shops. Soirée Coffee Bar is perfect for coffee and good bites!

I am a big supporter of artists and art galleries! We have to stop by Pencil On Paper Gallery and Daisha Board Gallery for a beautiful exhibit and good energy for the week!

Deep Ellum is full of a few favorite spots including Sneaker Politics and small bars that highlight local Dj’s (my favorite)

We are going to enjoy a fun night at Trees with a set by Brandon Blue when he is in town! All Blank Everything parties are a must

A good wine spot that I recently discovered, Burgundy Swine with TraeNed spinning! I love good vibes and good company!

Let’s eat sushi and some great Thai food! I love local and trying new spots. Bishop Arts has all the art and good food close by ( street tacos, sushi Emporium Pies, & tequila!)

Bringing people together makes me happy so let’s meet new people at a gallery and invite others out for a day supporting BIPOC businesses.

Have dinner at Roots Southern Table, highly recommend! Want to be a plant mom? Energy Gardens!

Canvas Hotel rooftop with drinks and a good view of the city!

Networking is fun! Let’s join Black Canvas and Think Tank Tuesdays, get to know other creatives

American Airlines Center, I love going to concerts! Let’s see Drake again and watch the Mavericks play (hopefully they win)

Enjoying a good time that includes a taste of Dallas that is full of visiting local businesses and my favorite spots to visit! All about experiences that are memorable.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I love the saying, ” You only win, when you help others win.”- Paul Zane Pilzer
Giving credit to all of my day one vendors that have been a part of the past marketplace events which means a lot to me and Either the win is small or big, there is progress for continuing my journey in building No Hush.

Collaboration has been my goal in every event that I create. From the local photographers, graphic designers, and event spaces that help my vision come to life. Crazy Faith allowed me to rise above when fear kicked in and prayer gave me strength everyday. Support from my immediate family and friends that contributed in any way inspired me to show up for businesses that need the opportunity to have their business seen. I am a huge advocate for mentorship and have found mentors through the willingness to gain more knowledge and pushing the envelope. Accountability partners are great to achieve higher goals and giving back to local creatives allows No Hush’s mission to consistently strive for victory.
