We had the good fortune of connecting with Trenton Jardine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trenton, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to provide people with an experience that is not something you could typically get in the moving industry when hiring movers. Years ago on a hot, summer day (in Texas nonetheless) my brother and I moved into our first apartment with only the help of a few friends—buddies, if you will. That day was tiring, sweaty, and long, but after we finished, and took a look at our new space, there was a feeling we could barely comprehend: a mix of satisfaction and accomplishment. That’s when the idea of Buddy Moving came to us. Nobody likes moving. It’s hard and takes time you could spend relaxing or enjoying with friends and family. But for us, we were spending time with friends. At the end of the day, we had hung out. We had worked, but it wasn’t the kind of work you never want to do again. That’s what we want everyone’s moving experience to be. We want every person who works with us to feel as if they’re spending time with their friends. We want to take care of them the way ours did for us, and make sure they don’t have a fear of moving. Rather, they should embrace it as you would spending time with your best buds. Many years later, we strive to maintain that feeling for all of our customers. We may be larger than when we started, but our number one priority is making sure you feel taken care of, the same way a buddy would take care of you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The slogan of our business is “when you move with us you move with a buddy” and this is something that truly sets us apart from other movers. Many people have had terrible moving experiences with moving companies and have lost trust in movers. We started our business with the focus on changing this and providing people with movers they could hire that would truly care for them and their items as if they were their best friend. With there being so many big names in the industry it was very difficult to gain any traction at first. Though, as soon as we gained a little traction, our growth was exponential. The more we were able to show people the amazing moving experience we provided the more the word got around about us and allowed us to thrive in such a competitive market. If our focus had not been on trying to change the experience people had with movers, I don’t know if we would have been able to break into such a competitive market. For the first few years, we ran this business without taking a profit for ourselves. This was difficult but we did it because we truly believed in the difference we were making. Looking back, although there were many tough times, our focus on our mission is what allowed us to keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a moving company, we have spent years in just about every building you can in Dallas moving people from place to place. There is an endless amount of places to go to and things to do. I would highly recommend Del Frisco’s in Dallas as well as Nick and Sams if you are looking to experience some of the great restaurants in Dallas. At night, I would recommend checking out all the cool different bars and hangout spots in Dallas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Bother, Jacob Nelson, who started this company with me, and without him this company would have never come to be. The name of the company is “Buddy Moving” specifically because we were buddies and we wanted to represent that as movers to every customer we had. People always ask their friends to help them move but nobody wants to do that, so we wanted people to be able to hire someone that not only would be their buddy but was a professional mover. And of course, our loyal customers and realtors who continue to use us over and over and refer us to friends and family. Without them, none of this would be possible and we hope to continue serving them as long as possible.
