We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia W. Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by so many things. For one, being outside. I wouldn’t say I’m an outside person but I love long walks because I notice life that I would have normally missed -flowers and colors I normally wouldn’t see, movements, sunset colors, birds, sounds, and smells. All of those creations I draw emotions from and that translates into artwork and jewelry designs. I’m also inspired by words, other’s emotions, current events and the emotions that come with. I translate it into artwork the same way other artists may translate into poetry, music, photography and other artforms.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in uniting contemporary art with fashion forward jewelry. TARTE LAINE Designs begin with paintings inspired by life, movement, emotions, and trending seasonal colors. My pieces consist of miniature hand-painted canvas. They are then embedded to create timeless and unique pieces that preserve and enhance colors. My designs synthesize my lifelong interest in art, design, fashion, and all things creative! Many people have seen my jewelry and found images that I never intended. That’s probably the most exciting part. Knowing that in each image, someone finds something unique to them. It makes the lengthy process of completing each design rewarding every time. Keeping designs fresh, unique, high quality and just fun keeps me busy!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would find a bunch of locally owned where we can create, shop, eat, have dessert, drink coffee etc. We’d probably go to places like Armor Coffee in Allen, The Plant Project, and Delucca’s for dinner and I would love to see a Jan Strimple production. For shopping, I’d also love going to Martini Consignment, Flea Style in Deep Ellis or Frisco, NeoBantu, Indigo 1745(can you tell I love to shop?). I’d probably just go down my IG list of fellow small business owners and see who I could hit up! I’ve been wanting to do bungee exercise classes. Those look so fun! We’d also have to find a few interactive art installations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to dedicate my shoutout to my family. They’re pretty amazing people, even the little ones inspire me. My mom, dad, sister and her family, my husband, and kids-everyone has something about them just inspires me. They’re also supportive, motivating, and there for me always. Their strength, dedication, and effort in everything they do keeps me going!
And there are so many others who I can shout out. Where do I start?! Here are some of the top of my head.
