We had the good fortune of connecting with Thurmeka Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thurmeka, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
“The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is one of the most profound books I’ve ever read. The way the agreements are broken down and explained in a way that changes one’s perspective is unmatched. The second agreement “Don’t take anything personally”is the one I like most. I had a tendency of taking everything someone did to heart. This book helped me to realize that what other people do is a direct reflection of themselves, it has nothing to do with me. Once I got that understanding down, a lot of things stopped bothering me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a freelance videographer/photographer. Tell me your vision and I’ll bring it to life. What sets me apart from others is I capture moments no one knew were coming. I put my all into my work and it shows. I see things from different angles and I capture them so the world can see things through my eyes. I get excited when my clients let me freestyle and “do me.” I still take into consideration what my client wants but the ability to capture their moment through my vision is priceless. What for me to where I am today is relationships. I network, I build, I get referred. To begin with it was challenging. I am not as social as I once was. However, people are pretty open especially when it comes to creating cash flow. Once I realized that networking became easy. I’ve learned that you can’t work with everyone and sometimes your clients want something different. I am an artist and I’m sensitive about my sh** so sometimes it can be a blow to my ego lol. I want the world to know that I love what I do. It’s not only an art but a stress relief. I love capturing moments and seeing my clients faces when they replay the moment. It amazes me at times to see how far I’ve come. I’ve tried several different careers in my life from retail, the military, the music industry to the corporate world. They just didn’t work for me. Too much authority and programming and not enough creativity.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“Tapping the Power Within” by Iyanla Vanzant deserves a major shoutout. This book helped me on my path to self realization and brought me closer to the most high. During times or confusion or weakness I pick this book up and always find a word. Big shouts to the author…you changed my life.
