We had the good fortune of connecting with Thara Varanasi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thara, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Some of my most meaningful memories have been spent engaging in service activities with family and friends. I’ve always enjoyed volunteering and sharing that passion with those around me. From hosting parties with a purpose to celebrating birthdays by volunteering; I’ve always tried to incorporate some element of giving back when gathering with others. When we had our first son, I took a leave of absence from the corporate world and dove head first into parenthood. I spent a lot of time getting together with friends and hosting play dates. The idea to formalize Play Dates with a Purpose was born to show kids that giving back can be a way of life – not just an activity. Play Dates with a Purpose is a means to share tips and activities and highlight local, global, big and small non-profits all making an impact. In 2021, I shared various way to give back each week, through #52WeeksOfGiving. I love hearing people’s favorite ways to give back and highlight ways kids and adults of all ages can make an impact!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Awarity’s mission is to democratize Advertising. We do this by making it easy, efficient, and affordable for businesses of all sizes to build targeted awareness. We work with a rapidly growing list of small businesses across the country, along with recognizable Fortune 500 brands.
Awareness is often a missing link for most businesses reliant primarily on social and search marketing. Layering on awareness amplifies all marketing efforts. We are disrupting the advertising industry with a turn key solution. We include world class creative, a point and click on-boarding process and a robust campaign performance dashboard.
We are most proud of enabling businesses of all sizes to create targeted and meaningful awareness for their brand or product. By removing this piece of the marketing puzzle from a business owner or marketing managers already full plate, it enables that person to focus on other key objectives and priorities.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A weeklong play date with a purpose with my bestie! Yay! Being a lifelong vegetarian, i’m always on the hunt for flavorful vegetarian cuisine, deep in the heart of Texas.
I love a good brunch. We’d have to start with the pancake flight at Snooze A.M, get avocado toast at The Nest and vegetarian chiliaquiles from Fearings. Favorite lunch spots include Flower Child and Legacy Food Hall followed by a little shopping at the variety of stores in Legacy West. My two favorite spots for flavorful and robust pairings are Musume and Sachet. As a bonus, their drinks are unique and delicious.
Pre-pandemic, I always enjoyed volunteering hands on with various non-profits. We’d of course schedule a session to pack meals at Feed My Starving Children in Richardson. Another one that i’d take my bestie to is The National Breast Cancer Foundation where we could assist in putting together Hope Kits. Giving back with friends is so meaningful and purposeful.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents instilled a love of service and giving from a young age. From preparing meals as a family to serve to homeless in Los Angeles, to playing games with residents in a Nursing Home or doing value based lessons with children in a shelter, service was and always will be a core value. I’m thankful to have a supportive and encouraging husband and children who also love to give and serve any chance they get.
Through decades of volunteering with non-profits around the country, I have been blessed with the opportunity to connect with and learn from a diverse set of people. I am inspired by women who put one foot in front of the other every day to give their kids the best opportunities. Refugees that have endured unimaginable hardship and still find reasons to smile and share their light with others. I am inspired and influenced by focusing on the light in each one of us. Surrounding myself with a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, interest, passions, and diversity of thought has blessed me with a rich network.
