We had the good fortune of connecting with Terri Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terri, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I had already been a successful executive and then an entrepreneur when I had a “purposeful awakening.” It was one idea: What if I could BOTH make the world better AND have financial success. When I first became a “conscious entrepreneur” in 2009, I had no idea how different it would be from traditional business. I struggled for the first few years trying to build a purposeful business, based on traditional business practices. It didn’t work. As I evolved in conscious leadership practices…my business grew. Over the last decade, I built what is now called “The Conscious Business Growth Platform” which is a diagnostic framework for entrepreneurs to evolve their business from start-up to as much as >$10M in annual revenue. Based on this platform, we launched Shift/Co – a Public Benefit Corporation to help other conscious entrepreneurs grow. The power of Shift/Co is in both the platform for business success, but also in the community. Wee collaborate and work together to learn and grow.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shift/Co is the Business GROWTH Platform for entrepreneurs who want to make the world better. We teach/coach and mentor entrepreneurs to grow thriving conscious companies. We’ve combined the power of the Conscious Business Growth Platform, which I’ve been using for almost 12 years now, with a powerful, collaborative community. I worked with several of my clients to create Shift/Co – and we like to say Shift/Co was created BY conscious entrepreneurs FOR conscious entrepreneurs. There are over 3 million conscious entrepreneurs around the world – and we’re bringing them together on our platform to learn, grow and inspire the world – together. Collaboration is the path to a more just, kind and successful world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to go to any of the many sporting events in Dallas. My favorite restaurants are: Neighborhood Services, Pappas Steak House and Trulucks. Surprisingly, the theater and music selections are also amazing. I also live near the Toyota Music Factory and all of the fun restaurants in the area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always cite my grandfather who was my first entrepreneurial mentor and my Earth Angel. He taught me 3 things: 1) “You get what you focus on” – so focus only on what you want. 2) “You also get what you give” – so find ways to give back to others. 3) “Profit is the tip your customers give when you serve them well” – so focus on how you serve and the success will come. From him…I’d also say that failure can be the best teacher. The only thing that separates successful people from others is the willingness to never quit.
