We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrance Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrance, how do you think about risk?
Being a risk taker is one of the most important traits of a small business owner. I took a HUGE risk when I left my jobs and moved halfway across the country from Pennsylvania to Texas to do my business full time. It was a huge risk because I was starting all over and because I didn’t have the financial safety net of my jobs, but running my business full time was always my dream and to make it a reality I had to take that risk and it has definitely paid off. I’m running my business full time! Even when it comes to launching new items, especially during the pandemic, there’s always a risk of things not selling well, but I take it anyway because I truly believe in the clothing and accessories I make and sell.

What should our readers know about your business?
From the beginning it was very important for me to make my business as socially conscious as possible about the issues I am passionate about. It’s what sets me apart from a lot of other businesses. There’s not only an emphasis on product and design, but human rights and the environment. I’m always using my platform and business to advocate for change and help people be more conscious and responsible consumers. I am a slow fashion and handmade brand, so everything is made and designed by me. People really gravitate towards the specialty and handmade pieces which also sets me apart from other companies; I’m not buying pre-made items in bulk and selling them at an inflated price, I’m actually sourcing materials, creating patterns, sitting behind the sewing machine making them and them packaging each and every order. It’s a lot of work and long days, but I get to wake up every day and do what I love which makes it all worth it! The road to get here has not been easy and has taken a long time but I’ve learned to take chances, be willing to adapt and creating a professional environment for your customers to shop is key to success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to all my favorite food places! Klyde Warren Park has some of the best food trucks in the city and its really convenient because it’s right down town and near the museums. I would also have to take them to Sprinkles cupcakes and let them try the cupcake vending machine which is such a unique experience in itself! My friend’s don’t have Whataburger up north and so I would definitely recommend us going there at least twice because as far as fast food goes, it is top tier and nothing truly compares! Rowlett has the cutest coffee shop called The Modern Well that I’d love to take them to. And because I am a designer and love fabric, I’d have to show them my favorite fabric places such as Fabric Wherehouse where I source a lot of my items!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my mom and sister who have always been so supportive of my goals and my dreams. I told my sister about wanting to learn how to sew and start my business and she bought me my first sewing machine and a gift card to Joann Fabric and it was that initial support and investment that has gotten me to where I am today. There is so much unconditional love and support, from buying my items, sharing them on social media and reading all the articles I’ve been in, they are continuously helping my dreams become a reality.
