We had the good fortune of connecting with Tan & Be and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tan & Be, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
A 3-way call gone wrong over 15 years ago birthed what is now Hear Ye Podcast. Our conversations are genuine and the things you “really want to say out loud” but can’t. Being best friends doesn’t hurt either, we’ve always been told how funny we were when other people would come around us, so we decided to add a mic to the mix and see what we come up with. Years later, we’re still here every Friday getting you through the rest of your week.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What’s sets Hear Ye apart from other podcasts is that we’ve known each other for so long that you really feel like you’re our third best friend when you’re listening to us. We’ll have you talking to yourself in the car, we hear those “Umhmmm’s” all the way over here. We just think our chemistry is really what people feel and connect to as cliche as it sounds. You can feel when it’s not real.
We are most excited about the future of Hear Ye. Our show was meant to be a safe haven to come as you are and leave feeling better than when you came. We are proud of figuring out what works for us and continuing to give you the content you’ve grown to love every week. if you haven’t, you will.
Heck no, it wasn’t easy. For the 1st year we weren’t even recoding right. The audio was terrible, going to studios were expensive, and we were just trying to figure out how to post a podcast. We watched YouTube videos, joined groups, and attended conferences, all in the hopes of understanding the ins and outs of podcasting. And in the midst of that, we’ve formed forever friendships and community with those we started with like Talkin’ Greasy, Music Impulse, It’s Better this Way, and Unpopular Opinions to name a few.
A few of the lessons we learned is to always make sure you are recording, double if not triple check your audio, invest in quality equipment, don’t be a hater, and don’t take “no’s” personal. It’s ok to take a break if you need to from podcasting, just come back when you’re ready because your listeners will miss you.
We want the world to know we are HERE. We have something to say, and we have no intentions on stopping anytime soon.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For one, Downtown Fort Worth is amazing. People sleep on it but you have all the arts, food, and entertainment within walking distance. Plus you can always find parking.
You can always find vibes in Deep Ellum if you like listening to live music, good drinks, and people watching.
Your Hometown Homegirls love a good
lounge for no other reason then to have a seat.
Try to get a coveted cajun seafood Black Box if you can from Aunt Irene’s Kitchen
Big T Bazarre is an oldie but goody. Why wouldn’t you want to get your outfit, nails, teeth, and tires done at the same place?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely the DFW podcast group that we were a part of. We can honestly say that it was a great group of people that we worked with. There was no sense of competition, and we all really wanted to see each other win. It’s encouraging to have that many people around who generally want to see you do good, but we were blessed to have that. Shoutout to Joshua Wilborn, Brodrick, Dennis McMurray and so many more, for popping it all off for us.
