We had the good fortune of connecting with Taisha Arise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taisha, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
You know, one thing that many people may not realize about our industry is just how much healing and introspection is involved. In Shibari-Bondage, it’s not just about the physical aspect, but also about facing fears, anxiety, and letting go of preconceived notions about healing. I really emphasize how my clients feel both during and after our session, because that’s where the true transformation happens. It’s all about creating a safe and nurturing space for growth and self-discovery.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Shibari or Kinbaku is a modern form of Japanese rope Bondage. Shibari simply means to tie, while Kinbaku focuses more on connection behind the ties. This is what separates how I execute this artistry as I intentionally incorporate connectivity with the Divine or God into each encounter.

I got to where I am professionally by making a lot of mistakes. I once took on my first clients on the underground simply by them walking up as i was eager to share the “good news” or Gospel of Shibari. I would later find out through deeper introspection, clarity of Purpose and strengthening my relationship with God, that although Shibari is for everybody, I, being an energetically sensitive person, am not. Interacting with multiple energies under various influences would leave me drained and sometimes physically ill for days post Tying. This is when I realized this work was indeed special and sacred. And with this responsibility I was being called to honor it as such. Of course this left a bit of a void on that particular scene which weighed heavily on me for about a year or so. I went into a bit of a depression to be quite honest but my orders were set and obedience to honoring my own No’s were no longer negotiable. In turn, I teach others in my care to do the same. It’s quite literally life/health or spiritual illness/death byway of the body.

I just want people to know that like life, Shibari is just as fun as it is serious. And just like life, whatever your intentions are, is exactly what you’ll get out of both.
