We had the good fortune of connecting with Sudha Srinivasamoorthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sudha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had a stable and decently paying Software Career for 7 years. But only after I took a break from my job, I found that my real passion is in Baking and Cake Decorating. The more I learned and practiced, the more confident I became in starting my own business. In any Art form, we need to have a thirst for knowledge and constant learning. Luckily for me I can spend hours researching and practicing cakes without getting bored which was the first time in my entire adult life. I have never been emotionally invested in anything as I am with Cake decorating which clearly showed that my passion lies in creating cakes. So I took a leap, along with the support of my spouse and the encouragement from my friends I started my own Business recently which I now call her as my Second Baby.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cakes are my canvas and I enjoy being part of other people’s celebrations through my Bakes. I consider myself a beginner in this field since there is so much to learn and execute which I am constantly doing. It was not easy to switch to a completely different career path. Initially I got the questions of Why this? and Why now? from others. But it’s that risk I had to take and believe in myself. As for lessons learned, No matter what Never give up on the dreams that sets our soul in fire. Passion combined with Practice and perseverance is my Mantra. I have a long way to go in this field which I am hoping I will do justice to this Art form. My Brand specializes in making Bespoke cakes for any Occasions. Apart from Cakes, I do customize other Desserts such as Macarons, Cake Jars, Cookies etc. Most of my Bakes are Egg Free and I specialize in creating Indian Fusion flavored Cakes and Desserts which has been quite popular. Also I do Dessert Hampers during Festive seasons like Christmas, Valentines day and Diwali. Goal behind my brand is to create one of a kind Cakes & Desserts which should both look and taste great.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
There are couple of interesting places in and around Dallas. 1. Dallas Arboretum is a beautiful place for a picnic with family/friends. 2. Dallas Museum of Art and Perot museum for Art and Science lovers. 3. Reunion Tower for an amazing Night view of the City. 4. Dallas is also pretty popular foodie destination. There are variety of good Indian and Mexican restaurants here. Mi Dia, Torchy’s Tacos for Mexican, Honest, Saravana Bhavan for Indian Food to name a few. 5. Also a drive to Austin or San Antonio is my favorite and its just 4-5 hours from here. River walk in San Antonio followed by Dinner at Rita’s on the river would be my ideal weekend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Julia Child and Pooja Dhingra (Pastry chef in India) are my Idols in my Baking journey. Their stories inspire me a lot. Without the love and faith of my spouse, this wouldn’t be possible at all. He has been my constant support and a critic of my work which pushes me to do much better every time. I am so grateful for my friends I have who have been my pillars of strength and encouraging me in every step. Also we have an amazing Baking community in Instagram where I have met so many talented Cake Artists who are very supportive and inspiring. I have made some wonderful friends in this forum.
