We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Jensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up my family never took family photos. The only one I have is when I was 8 years old and it was in a JCPenny studio. I have no photos of my dad, my sisters, my mother, or anyone in my family. That only changed during weddings.

I fell in love with photography when my oldest daughter was born. Being just 18 years old, I didn’t have the funds for maternity, newborn, or family photos. It all started with my iPhone camera. I captured every little thing for 6 1/2 years. I wanted to capture every little thing, every moment of the two of us, and everything in between since I didn’t have that growing up. I wanted images to look back on when she’s grown up. I want her to know and see how much she’s loved.

I eventually got married and we had our first official family photos taken yearly. I purchased my first DSLR in 2019 after the birth of my second child. I was older, financially stable, and in a much better place. We had maternity photos, newborn, and family photos were taken. But then came a time when I wanted to penny-pinch. That’s when I picked up my first camera and I never looked back.

I eventually realized I was good at this. I started off taking unpaid model sessions to get a good feel for it. I fell in love with telling other families stories. I wanted to be a storyteller.

And that’s how it all began.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It has taken me almost two years to get a steady income. When I first started my business I couldn’t have imagined I’d be where I am today.

I invested in myself. I invested in education. I am currently active in Profitable Mini Sessions, Woven Storytelling, The Milky Way Family edition, and White Pine editing and business mentorship.

What sets me apart from my competitors is I am more interested in telling your story. I’m a storyteller. I’m not your typical photographer where you look at me in a certain pose and smile. I like to capture those moments in between. That is where the moments lie. That is where your story is. My services are all-inclusive. Meaning we will have a consultation before your session on how you want your story to be told. You will be offered access to my client closet where I will help style you and your family. If you don’t find anything in my client closet then I will help guide you with styling assistance. I will online shop for you and send you links to appropriate outfits based on the story you’re wanting to tell. I also offer a service called style and select. This service sends you a questionnaire on your style preferences. Based on your answers, you will be sent results with clothing and accessory items. We will create a style board and a vision board. That way you can get a look at the big picture and it’ll give you an idea of how your photos will turn out. I try to make the planning process as stress-free as possible for my client. Let me take on the stress.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to downtown or uptown Dallas, and I would take them to Lake Grapevine. There’s nothing like jumping off those rocks and into the water during a hot Texas summer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. I wouldn’t of been able to make it as far as I have without the support of my husband Taylor, our daughters Brooklynn and Aubrey, and my son Bentley.

I strive to be amazing for them.
