We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Burleson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inspiration for So Like You is rooted in a desire to align my passion with my purpose. While my background is in accounting—giving me the necessary business acumen—my true creative calling has always been art. This led me to take up sewing. Learning the craft under the guidance of my grandmother wasn’t just a hobby; it was the foundation that birth the So Like You brand to honor her legacy and express my creativity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So Like You is an apparel brand focused on personalized fashion that celebrates individual personality.

As the designer and seamstress, I work directly with clients to create custom pieces, ensuring the final look perfectly matches their vision. While I began by specializing in skirts, my offerings have expanded to include women’s separates, children’s wear, and semi-formal attire.

I am most proud of my recent successful showing at New York Fashion Week this past September, an accomplishment built on the momentum of producing two seasons of my own showcase event, “Respect My Art – Showcase & Tribute.” My dedication to continuous learning and technical mastery in the arts is what truly sets So Like You apart.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My approach to hosting a friend who visits me in Texas is centered on holistic rejuvenation. The itinerary is designed to address the spirit, mind, and body. I would begin by ensuring their spiritual well-being—a visit to my church offers a moment of reflection and grounding after the busy week. Following this, we would move to the culinary experience, enjoying some of the region’s best food at locations like Brunch Room Bistro in Forney, Mr. Cajuns, and Sky Blossoms in Dallas. Finally, to foster mental clarity and connection, we would take an energizing walk along Rockwall Lake or setup a sip n paint session for reflection and replenishment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to every person who bravely shares their talent(s) with the world. So many creatives are sitting on their unique form of art that could help inspire others. Also a very special thanks to everyone that has genuinely supported my journey this far.
