We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheena Bray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheena, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always giggle when asked this question. I’ve always had the passion for creativity and thinking outside the box. Turning something plain, old, or odd into something spectacular excites me. Even in my regular 9 to 5 my office is transformed into a space that you’d have in your home. My family and friends have always been my biggest support system. Feeding my creative niche and giving me small jobs to complete keep me going. It could be decorating a bathroom, office, birthday party, or Repurposing a canvas painting, I enjoy it all it’s fun to me. I finally decided to listen to the people in my ear and start my business that challenges me and keeps me fulfilled. Most importantly, I love seeing someone’s vision come to life, and the joy of knowing I did that. Or meeting a new client and asking what’s their inspiration for decor, and they say “I’ve seen your work, I trust you, do whatever you like, get creative.” It’s the most Amazing feeling! This motivates me to keep going and elevating my business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career as a photo tech at Walgreens. I wanted to do more, and elevate my career. I wanted a challenge so I got my Pharmacy Tech license. Being on the front line, and helping people became a passion of mine. It was important to further my education in healthcare, so I went back to school to get my Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration. None of this was easy. Trust me! Going back to school, balancing work, the household, husband, and kids busy schedule; there were days I wanted to pull my hair out. Trying not to neglect my family when at home I would wake up early to do homework, and on my lunch breaks. I wasn’t really taking care of myself so I decided not to go for another degree. I was mentally and physically drained. Trying to reach a certain point in my career at a certain age was killing me. I had to get off that roller coaster. From all the chaos I’ve learned that what’s meant for me will never miss me. I’ve let go, God got it from here!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh yeah! If we don’t do anything else we gon eat. Let’s go to 360 Brunch House, Sandbox and slay some zombies, City View Tacos, cool off later with a snow cone from Bahama Bucks. We gotta take a nap cause I’m always sleepy. Later on, we can go to Tasty Tails in Addison, Then we can go to Freeman’s in Deep Ellum for some live music and drinks. The next day we can go to sidecar social for lunch, Myx Blend Bar for some girl time. And later we can go to the roof top cinema in Fort Worth for a chill night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my family for being my biggest supporters. When I said, hey I’m going to start my event planning and decor business !” I got some about time comments, lol. But that’s ok, I’ll take that. But they were on board, saying what do you need me to do? They’re my team! And I love it. Coming with me to events, helping setup/ break down. I love them. They help make Unique Sapphire Creations!
