We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheena Balentine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we decided to start Jan’s Heavenly Desserts , it was about creating a legacy. Everyone has worked for someone else whether it is in a office setting, retail store, or gas station. It’s time that we shared our talent with the world. We are creating a legacy for our family. Future generations will not have to work for someone else. We have created an affordable black owned business in the middle of a pandemic. This is destiny and it is only the beginning.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life in general is hard. Anything worth having is worth working for. Part of my everyday challenges is time management. I have become more focus and determine to make my passion for my business become my main source of income. I have worked majority of my life within corporate America. Now it is time for my faith and my heart into something that I really love doing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town I would take her to Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Then we would have to go to the Grapevine Aquarium, I love the water. It is one of the places that reminds me of the ocean in California. One of my favorite places to eat is Akita Hibachi Sushi Bar. I’m not be fan of Sushi, however they have a great grill where they grill your food in front of you. I would also take them to Briarwood Park to go fishing. One the last night of the week I would set up a table with all of my desserts. I would bake the peach cobbler cheesecake all the way to 7up cake with the lemon glaze. I would bring all the family together so that we can eat dinner after dessert. I would want my friend to see how my kids and grand kids have grown. I want them to see where my gray hairs have come from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost Jesus Christ gets all the credit for giving us the vision. My family and friends for all there love and support.
