We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Dial Johnson & Tamara Correa Bohanon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shay Dial Johnson &, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We both are involved in the community through work and play. As members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. it’s ingrained in us to work collaboratively with others. We had the idea that we should start a paraphernalia line that speaks to that… Sisterhood through Service, no matter what organization you’re in.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an online boutique that specializes in BGL Sorority paraphernalia for best friends, line sisters, and legacies alike; Shop with us to find unique para that speaks to the heart of friendship among Greek women and nurturing sisterhood through service! We started our business right before the pandemic took over the world and it’s been very difficult to keep our footing. But the plan is to hold out, keep the faith, and continue to master our online platform until it is safe to do what we intended to do… vend at in-person events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we are business partners and best friends, so some of the places we like to go in Fort Worth are The Tavern because they have an amazing menu and Reata, because the rooftop views of downtown are to die for. For fun, we’d suggest a day at the Fort Worth Zoo or the amazing Botanic Gardens and as an interesting add-on, the Cultural District has great live music venues and art museums.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We definitely want to shout out all the Greek Vendors that have encouraged us along the way! Danita Gilmore of The Sterling Link, Gwendolyn Gerald of Jazzy Greeks, and Kayla Odom have all been great mentors and allowed us to pick their brains along this journey.
