We had the good fortune of connecting with Shavonn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shavonn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In all truth, it chose me. I was born into a highly creative and athletic family so my gifts and talents being cultivated was an essential part of my family’s everyday life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m simply a woman born in south Dallas, a product of DISD school system who had a great village . From my parents, grandparents to my teachers, coaches and mentors, that required excellence in everything. My gift of singing and songwriting was always pushed and supported by my village. From vocal lessons, competitions, traveling and simply believing in my talent. I would not be who I am now without the wisdom of my grandmother and mother who supported and funded everything if needed. They’re my sheros and queens.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First brunch at Kenny’s Wood Fire Grill and then to a Dallas Cowboys Game We’d go shopping at North Park and have lunch at The Henry and for dinner I’d probably cook some homemade enchiladas. By midweek we’d go to deep ellum and listen to a live band and likely do a lil shopping then grab dinner at one of the restaurants there. By Friday we’d go to Ella B’s in Arlington and pick anything to Grub on while listen to live music and drive to either joe pool lake or Rockwall to chill near the water and sun/moon gaze. On Saturday we rest bc of course it’s the sabbath.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Kevin Graves for believing in me and producing an amazing album
