We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasha McClanahan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sasha, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
There is nothing that you can’t work through/ figure out. I personally don’t believe in excuses; they tend to only hinder you from a goal. When you start out there are so many things that would be easier if only you had more money, if only you had more resources. That instinct to make an excuse for what you don’t have at that time can weigh heavy your outlook. You have to push through and make your own lane. Being resourceful and using the tools that I have are my super power! The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to use what you have at your disposal until you can level up. Everyone has to start somewhere!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Demi Naturals is a skincare company that focuses on using simple ingredients that work to exfoliate, nourish, and deeply moisturize the skin. We create hand-crafted body butters, body oils, and body scrubs. I pride myself in creating products that are safe and can be trusted to use on the whole family. I am driven by the positivity that I’ve gotten; knowing that something I’ve made impacted someones day/ life is the ultimate good feeling.
I love love love Demi Naturals but I have to talk about my career in nursing. I still work full-time as a registered nurse. Nursing has taught me so many lessons that carry over into the way that I operate my business. My love for the sciences also play a huge role into how I started formulating products. After I had my son, I wanted products that worked for his sensitive skin. So little by little I started making products for my family and eventually had the confidence to start selling on Etsy.
Honestly, Im still learning, still figuring it all out, growing, and juggling it all. It’s not always easy but, its worth it. I choose not to focus on the things I don’t have or haven’t accomplished yet! I try to make the best with the resources that I have.
I want the world to know that anything is possible with the right mindset. I’m a one woman show doing it all while working, “mommying”, and taking care of my household. Demi Naturals is a simple business with simple values. We care about providing quality skincare products that actually work for everyone!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to all the amazing women creators and business owners in the Dallas area! Even if I don’t personally know them, I have so many virtual mentors that provoke growth and positivity both in business and personal life. I’d like to show love to Latrice Collins, owner of clothing brand Rated HBCU, has opened her shop to me and is always a listening ear whenever I have questions about business, motherhood, and juggling it all. Lastly, Julian Addo, owner of Adwoa Beauty, opened her showroom to small black women owned businesses to showcase products right before the pandemic. I was able to connect with other women business owners and share my products with the community. I truly appreciate them!
