We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra Newell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, was exciting.
The opportunity to share what I enjoy with others, and the prospect of creating something new, being my own boss, and pursuing my passion was motivating.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an educator, and I have been in education for 17 years. As an educator, I play a crucial role in shaping minds and inspiring future generations. I teach reading, and I understand the importance of being able to read at an early age.
I have fond me memories of my childhood and when friends’, family, and I would get together, we would reminiscence about our childhoods. I noticed that my stories seem to bring smiles to the faces of the people I shared them with, and they would also have a story they wanted to share with me as well.
So, I decided to create these easy reading books for adults as well as children to read and enjoy. The series centers around a little girl name Lena, who spends her summer vacations outside, exploring, playing, and learning life’s lessons while growing up in a small town.
Childhood memories have a way of warming the soul. They remind me of simple pleasures and fun times. The world can often be complicated and stressful, so childhood memories give a sense of innocence and pure joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would begin the morning with a cardio workout at my favorite gym, followed up with a nutritional breakfast packed with protein to help start the day off right.
We would visit Ash Creek Park if it’s not too hot, and maybe enjoy a picnic under the shady trees. We would just hang out and enjoy the surroundings and relax.
Later, we would take in a fun action-packed movie that we could all agree on to see.
After the movie we would grab a bite to eat and continue to enjoy some quality time hanging out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Support from my family and friends with a very special shout out to my brother Jeffrey White who is the illustrator of my children’s book series Lena’s Adventure’s.
