Meet Sam Mahoney | Founder/Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Mahoney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up in outback Australia i’ve always loved being outdoors. These days being out on the water with a few of my good mates, is my kind of therapy. Ive taken a lot of inspiration from my upbringing to now with my business as fishing is something i love to do and i am really passionate about.

In 2016, my mates and i were on a fishing trip and we stopped to grab some bait and ice and i decided to get a new fishing shirt for our trip. I felt disappointed with every tackle store i visited as they had a limited selection of ladies outdoor clothing and goods. I ended up selecting a shirt from the men’s sale section as i couldn’t find a nice ladies shirt. But why? Women enjoy fishing too!

When i returned home after our trip, i remember sitting down with a beer to unwind and I called my mom and i told her about not being able to find a nice ladies fishing shirt. I said “i should just design my own shirt!”. It was just a completely random idea born of necessity. Fast forward to 7 years on, i have designed a range of outdoor clothing that has sold over 50,000+, with our biggest customers being Female Anglers. Today we are one of Australia’s favourite outdoor companies with a large range of Ladies, Men & Children’s apparel

In 2017 we added a range of custom hard coolers that I designed and they have since been one of our best selling items. We are excited to officially launch our new range of coolers in all new colors & sizes this summer!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are blessed to have customers Australia wide and many of them are repeat customers which is very important as it let’s us know that we must be doing something right. The biggest hurdle of any business is getting your brand and/or product known and exists. Lessons learned along the way have been to have pateince, faith and trust in what you are building as it can be slow and discouraging at the start.

I am loooking to what this year brings to our company as we launch our new products and range world wide. This year we are also focusing on wholesaling our products in outdoor stores across America. My ultimate dream would be to see my products in my favorite store, Bass Pro! Total goals!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most definitely my favortie place in the world is the Stockyards in Fort Worth! I’ve traveled a lot all over the world and for sure its my favourite place to be! Listening to Geroge Strait in some ol’ Honky Tonk, enjoying the local rodeo and eating Riscky.s BBQ! I think right there is the. best kind of plans for any night of the week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most definitely my mom, she was the first to hear about this random idea and today she is currently employed full time and helps me with all aspects of the business . I owe alot to her and wouldn’t be where i am today without her support & guidance over the years. I have a lot of other family support, even my 83 year old grandmother helps where she can! I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful family and great support system. I remember selling 500+ coolers in one night and everyone just pitched in to help get the orders out!

I have a inspiring group of succesful friends who hype me up when i need it, motivate me and always pushing me to be the best woman, friend & business person i can be. I truly got lucky!
