We had the good fortune of connecting with SAIMA MEHERALI and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SAIMA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I originally didn’t have the intention to start a business in this field of work. It was more for fun and honestly became a business with encouragement of my friends and family. Today if I am able to have this small business it is thanks to my support system and community. After I started my business, my thought process was to provide new ideas and use new techniques to create new items and I continue to learn more ways to provide fast and unique products.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I offer a variety of products such as decals, iron-on t-shirts and custom canvas, which offers a one stop shop for all your custom design needs. In the beginning, the learning period and experimenting with different materials was a little challenging. Then with practice I got better, but there is always room for improvement. I have learned to keep exploring and finding new ways to keep up with the industry. I graduated with a Fashion Design degree from Texas Woman’s University. After graduation, I pursued my career as a Business Analyst at Citibank. For a really log time I was trying to explore different ways to express my creativity through different projects. Nothing seemed to stick and keep me interested for too long until couple years ago when I created my very first decal project for my son’s room. It was something very simple, a Wall of Alphabets with various colors and fonts. It was so much fun to be creative and learn new technique. That was just the beginning of my journey and I have much more left to explore.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
1. Legacy West: Lots of great restaurants for food and drinks. Legacy Hall is one of my favorite since it has many food options and a full bar. 2. Klyde Warren Park: great place to be on a weekend with food trucks and entertainment available for all. 3. Cowboy’s Stadium: for a day of tour
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my family and friends for all their encouragement and support.
