We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruby Wilke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruby, what role has risk played in your life or career?
How do I feel about risk taking? Every business decision I have ever made came at a risk. Will I be successful? Will I make a profit? Will I regret this decision? Will this make my family’s daily life suffer? These are all questions I asked myself before starting Bailey Farms and Bakery. I had owned several business before this one, that never really worked out. I built Bailey Farms from nothing, dirt and some seeds. I had lots of help from my children and partner. They have supported me through the entire process. In March of 2020 we were getting ready to expand our store into a full bakery. Bailey Farms was going on its 6th year of being open and proving to be successful. The pandemic began to set in, everyone around me was closing down. I was being told not to risk the expansion I would not be able to get help physically or financially, that it would devastate my business. I had been dreaming of this opportunity for years. I had saved every dollar we had made to expand. I took the risk. I took every dollar and put it back into my business expanded into Bailey Farms and Bakery. Today Bailey Farms and Bakery is a success. We were able to help our community in times of need and our community supported us. We have made lifelong friends and partnerships. I can not wait to see what the future brings. If someone was to ask me today should I take the risk? I would answer with Yes! You will never be successful if you don’t try. Never give up. When one opportunity fails get up and try another. Success is built on failed attempts. Learn from your mistakes and never give up..
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make custom cakes and pastries. I am always learned and striving to be better than I was yesterday. I take classes, watched endless hours of YouTube videos on recipes different techniques. I am always open minded and ready to take any opinions or useful information. I got to wear I am today by hard work and dedication. Was it easy? No, I had to push myself everyday. I’ve worked hundreds of hours I didn’t pay myself for. I always knew it would work out in the end. The lessons I have learned along the way. I have learned never to doubt myself worth and knowledge. To be confident in what my business brings to the table. What I want the world to know about my Brand Is. I will always strive to make a great customer service experience. I want you to be happy when you leave our store or website. We strive to be better everyday. We want to provide a homemade product that is quality yet affordable.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come into town, I definitely show off my store first thing. From the 22 acres of produce we grow the peach orchard. and our pastries. Then We go to Clear fork shopping center. They have so many cool new stores. It is visually pleasing and they have the farmers market come in which I love.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Community and Family. Brock Texas Community has been very supportive of my dream, some have even helped run the store out of the kindness of there hearts in the earlier years when we were struggling.
