We had the good fortune of connecting with Prisma Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Prisma, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am a social impact strategist. Not only do I work in this space professionally, I have a natural talent to make connections and meet community where they are. Social impact can be both intentional and unintentional, both positive and negative. Through my work in the community, I am constantly analyzing the impact, whether it is through my corporate job, nonprofit boards, and even my own purchases.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been focused on people. I have been a fundraiser, capacity builder, program director, and strategist. I do not believe my career has been linear and I did not necessarily have a plan. I studied biology and business. There were challenges along the way and sometimes new challenges still pop up. I do not believe that there is ever a time when life is perfect and the same can be said about a job or career. Luckily, I have learned from my mistakes and have found the commonalities to weave a story together that feels cohesive.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I spend a lot of time in my neighborhood of Pleasant Grove. I prefer to spend my money locally. I even started a blog called Pleasant Grove Eats. Additionally, I enjoy visiting new restaurants and finding new hiking trails.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my father, who came to this country when he was 15 years old. I also shoutout people in my life like my mother and sisters, Atalia Garcia Williams and Dalila Garcia.

Professionally, I could not be where I am today without the support of bosses like Patrick Elverum, Mary Campo, Tony Fleo, Florencia Velasco Fortner, and Aimee Griffiths.
