We had the good fortune of connecting with Penny Haight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Penny, how does your business help the community?
As counselors, we have the opportunity to make an impact that reaches beyond our community. Counseling does not only positively affect the person receiving therapy, it has the ability to improve an entire family system, as well as every relationship the person obtaining the counseling interacts with.
We are honored by every client that chooses us to provide their mental health needs. Counseling by Penny has expanded to meet more of the needs of our community. A second location was added last February at 2630 West Freeway, as well as, a Theraputic Yoga Class called Release Yoga with a certified yoga teacher and therapist.
Our new boutique Intensitive Outpatient Program, Reset, for teens and children will address a great need in our community to provide individual and group therapy without interferring with school and extra curriculars. Ciara O’Neal, the CEO, brings the knowledge, experience, and compassion to make Reset widly successful.
What should our readers know about your business?
I want the world to know that Counseling By Penny & Asssociates pays attention to the little details in order to make our client’s experience with us healing, as well as, pleasant. We have worked hard to create and maintain a spa-like environment to help our customers to feel comfortable, safe, and welcome.
Our management leads in a way that attracts the best clinicians and employees. We continually do the things to cultivate a great culture for our employees.
The hardest lessons learned in my business has been about navigating insurance, specifically third party insurance companies that delay/deny paying claims that are truly owed to my clients. It is never easy to deal with them as the insurance companies do everything they can to make it difficult. This problem has caused many counselors to stop accepting insurance.
I’m proud to say we accept the most popular insurance because I’m dedicated to providing affordable mental health care to my community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1. Local Foods Kitchen for Blueberry Pancakes. 2. Walk the Trinity Trails to Farmers Market by Press Cafe
3. Eurpean Skin Med Spa for Facial
4. Release Yoga – Counseling By Penny private session
5. Brewed for Chai Tea and Late Lunch

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could not have opened my pracitice without the support of my family. Each member has played an intricate part of the success of my business. My husband serves as my safety net, emotionally and financially my first year. Coaching from my son tremendously shaped my marketing and branding strategies, while my daughter inspires me to communicate and train employees in a way that leaves them feeling appreciated and valued. Over the years my daughter and son in-law have provided support in various ways that has enabled Counseling By Penny to run smoothly. There have been countless conversations with my dad encouraging me through the challenges of owning and operating a business for 10 years. It is evident that takes a village to raise a thriving group counseling practice.
I have been blessed with skilled and talented employees that are dedicated to providing excellent customer service and quality mental health care for our clients.
