We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Newlands and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paula, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am very passionate about what I do. I have been styling, shopping, and fitting women since I was 15 years old. With so much experience in retail and fashion industry it was only natural that at some point I would start my own business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a personal wardrobe stylist, I help men and women build confidence through their wardrobe. Working in the retail industry for 20 years I noticed a need that wasn’t being met by companies, brands, and associates. Maybe it was a security issue .. but I wanted to differentiate my business by filling the gap and creating value for my clients. Instead of leading with shopping, like most stylists and retail stores, I wanted to lead with closet assessments. By starting in the wardrobe I am able to help my clients evaluate what no longer serves them and help make room for immediate needs. In addition, most people would agree that they have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear.. Creating a digital wardrobe is my second sought out service. Before buying new pieces I get creative with what my clients already own. I build complete outfits, photograph them, and share the album making it easy for them to get up, get dressed, and get out. Then the shopping comes easy, because we are doing it with intention.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I currently live in Dallas, TX, this city is known for good food and better drinks. Here are some of my favorite spots to eat and visit. Pecan Lodge for bbq, Cane Rosso for pizza, High and Tight speakeasy, Meddlesome Moth for brunch, The Virgin Hotel for craft cocktails and a boogie, Te Deseo or Happiest Hour for rooftop drinks, The Henrey for ambiance, Bishop Arts for boutique shopping and casual strolls, Arboretum for live music and picnics with a view, Greenville and Henderson for walkable bars. Klyde Warren Park on a beautiful day, surrounded by museums and food trucks! Honestly, there is so much to do in Dallas my mind is having a hard time wrapping itself around all the amazing things to do! I hope this provides some guidance..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a big shoutout to my mom! She has always been my #1 cheerleader. Constantly encouraging me to do what I love, no matter how challenging things may seem. “You were born to do this. Your clients love you. You do build confidence through wardrobe, I’ve seen the reviews. You are constantly creating value, I saw the smile on his/her face. You are so creative with your approach, keep creating partnerships. Don’t give up. Keep moving forward. I’m so proud of you. You got this.” Honestly, what would I do without her?
