We had the good fortune of connecting with Paola Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paola, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I was younger, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. As a child my mom and dad always had a small side business to make extra money, so it’s always stuck to me to want to always have a backup! I just never knew what exactly I was good at or wanted to do. I started doing press on nails for my family and close friends. I would sit and research for hours trying to figure out how to make this perfect, and then after all the search and practice I decided to start my own business. I remember starting with plain colors and being so scared to do designs or any crazy art on nails, but now I truly enjoy the art of it and love doing it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Freedom of artistic creativity, I love the way a client can express themselves through my nail art. There is no boundaries and I love that! Every individual I get is so different and has their own style, so it’s never boring. I am so proud of it all if I’m being honest, I didn’t think I would have many orders at first and now I have almost shipped to every state in the US. Seeing the growth of my business keeps me motivated. I am excited for what’s to come, I have a lot in store, and I am very excited for a new year to show everyone what I have been working on. This was definitely not easy; I had a lot of ups and downs throughout this little journey. There were days that I would want to give up on it all because I would not meet my goal for the week. I learned to be patient and that that’s what comes with having your own business. There’s going to be good days and bad days and that is ok. Not only do I put a lot of work in the nails, but I also put a lot of detail when it comes to the photo shoots and videos for my brand, there’s so much that goes behind the scenes. Love the support and all the love that all my work gets and that’s one of the things that keeps me moving forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I am taking them is Pluckers, I am honestly so obsessed with that restaurant!!! That is my favorite place, my friends hate me for this, I can literally eat that every day. Also Gus’s Fried Chicken in Deep Ellum, that has to be the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Last but not least Delta Charlies in Dallas, food is great! Right after the food you get to go on a plane ride and look at the Dallas skyline. I love a good view and this is definitely a beautiful view. Alright, enough about food. First place out would be Klyde Warren park in Dallas. Riding the scooters that downtown offers and it’s just honestly such a peaceful vibe. This is about to be so basic but, the Dallas or Fort Worth zoo. I’m such an Outdoor person, I love being outside and active. So, with that being said, the last place would be Six Flags!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have been involved in my success, starting with family, friends and boyfriend who have inspired and believed in me when this was just a thought. To my first client who trusted my talent and ability, to mentors that took me under their wings and helped me realize there are no limits that I could never pursue. To all my girls who have returned throughout this year and that is not just another transaction but have built a relationship. HUGE Shout out to my models who happen to be my bestfriends ( Sabrina, Gisela, Vicenta, Josue, Jay and Nana)! They show out every time for the photoshoots and never complain. Can’t forget about my photographer as well Lil Kamber always behind the scenes and helps so much with every shoot. Couldn’t do it without my girls! Lastly a huge shout out to Janet for having the ShoutoutDFW contact me.
