We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Tuckey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

I feel that one of the most important factors behind my success is the service I deliver to my clients. I consult with them to gain information and details about what they want from their session. I customize it, and design it around the information I take from my consultation notes. I create a mood board on Pinterest that I then share it privately on a secret board so we can collaborate on our ideas. Whether it’s a high school senior who loves vintage clothes, a mom who wants to have a modern glamour session, anyone needing a personal branding session, or a woman who wants to feel beautiful with a boudoir session, I research, plan and design their session strategically and with the intention to deliver not only a great finished product but a memorable, fun experience as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I have learned so much in the last 15 years taking in-person workshops and online classes. I’m always excited to learn new skills and techniques and apply that to my workflow, lighting, and editing. Photoshop is an essential tool if you know how to use it properly. There are so many resources available and I have paid memberships to several platforms I use regularly to create custom slideshows, display client galleries, editing software, and watch classes. I also provide a beautifully curated wardrobe of dresses and jewelry for my clients to choose from. My next endeavor will be to paint a few of my own custom backdrops.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I created a group on Facebook called Flower Mound Happy Hour to bring people together and support local businesses and the surrounding areas. We now have nearly 2,000 members, so I know a lot of great places When we go out with friends we love to start with happy hour at one of the local wine bars, such as Larue Vineyard, Markasee Market, or Clink Wine Bar where you can customize your own charcuterie board and enjoy your favorite wine or beer. We also look for outdoor patios to dine on so LSA Burger in Denton has a rooftop patio with live music on the weekends. Piaf in Grapevine is a Mediterranean place with great food and a rooftop patio as well. There is a fun Speakeasy in Denton called Paschall Bar with specialty cocktails and eccentric decor. The Truck Yard in The Colony has live music and food trucks as well as a toilet seat museum! Giro’s Pizza and Pasta is fabulous for freshly made from scratch authentic Italian food. Ask for Diego Stefani and tell him Pamela sent you. Los Compadres in Roanoke has excellent margaritas and a delicious menu with a dog-friendly patio, as well as Mena’s Grill in Flower Mound. Urbano’s Enchilada and Taco bar has a great patio, awesome Bloody Mary bar on the weekends and fun fire pit to sit around, as well as live music on the weekends. The Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House is a local favorite with over 200 whiskeys and Svetlana Schoggins hosts fun tasting events regularly.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My Grandmother Dora Thornton and her immense love of photographs was a huge influence in my life. She had photo albums she absolutely treasured filled with family and friends over the course of her lifetime. She wrote on the back of every single photo the information about that particular image. The names, maiden names, birthdates, and dates of death as she knew it. Her  documentation of family historical information was similar to personalized Metadata before the computer or digital cameras! She taught me the importance and incredible value of printed portraits, they become our legacy and exist for future generations long after we are gone, they are art for our walls not to be tucked away in an online gallery somewhere. Frame them, enjoy looking at them, display them and create beautiful albums and gifts to share. So many photos today are online bunny-ear selfies with Instagram or Facebook galleries with filters. Crafting a gorgeous portrait that will last a lifetime is incredible and to hold it in your hand instead of look at it on your computer is so much more incredible. Today we are younger than we will be tomorrow but older than we were yesterday. We should all exist in beautifully printed photos.
