We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When it comes to the Pink Ladybug Brand the most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is consistency and creativity. Always being consistent in my business ventures regardless of what the present situation may look like, or how I may be feeling I remain determined and loyal to my clients and do my very best to continuously give them the boldest , creative styles , as well as mastering the ability to bring their creations and ideas to life through my work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Pink Ladybug Designs and Styling was created in 2002 from my original business Classy Crochet Creations. I was making custom hand made crochet items, which was proved to be quite tedious, and from that, the Pink Ladybug brand was born. Initially, the business plan for Pink Ladybug Designs was a women’s upscale boutique. However, once I began doing volunteer work and internship at the Dallas World Trade Center while attending Wade College, my entire outlook changed. I decided that rather than owning a boutique and ordering merchandise from vendors etc. I wanted more of a custom experience for my clients. I wanted them to feel one of a kind and stand out in the crowd when they were representing Pink Ladybug Designs. So I decided to work more on my fashion design techniques and styles to be able to produce funky custom one of kind fashions that were not available in other boutiques and stores online. And so began the journey of Pink Ladybug Designs. I started out in 2010, designing custom painted and bleached distressed graphic tees. And my business pretty much took off from there. I just tapped into my creativity and started doing anything weird and funky that stood out to people, From hand-painted jeans and jackets to custom-designed tee shirts and other items, whatever comes to mind I create from a custom creative mindset. Starting and running a business has definitely not been a smooth road. Many times I became frustrated and wanted to just throw in the towel. I have experienced many restless nights and very long days of contemplating whether or not this is really what I was supposed to do. Not to mention financial struggles along the way always thinking I will just have to wait to do this when I have this amount of money, or when I’m at this point in my life, etc. So Pink Ladybug Designs to sum it up would be described as custom, made to order designs that enhance my client’s fashion experience to the next level and beyond!! When my clients walk into a room or event, they definitely have all eyes on them in Pink Ladybug Designs. I specialize in hand-painted designs as well as my own Fashion Line “Rare Breed,” among many other things. My clients bring me ideas and I bring them to life through my creative designs. That is what Pink Ladybug Designs is mainly known for. Popping colors, funky patterns, and cool slogans. What I am most proud of as a company is a way I pride myself on great customer service and communication with my clients. It is and has always been one of my most important goals in business. I believe what sets me apart from others is my “EXTRA-NESS”!! I have always been one to think outside of the box when it comes to fashion and designing. Nothing like the NORM. And nothing like everyone else! I love it when my clients tell me to just do my thing. I give me a canvas and allows me to go for what I know.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week in Dallas we would definitely visit many great restaurants in the Bishop Arts District and Uptown Area of Dallas. A few of my favorite restaurants we would visit would definitely be Drake’s, Yardbirds, and Gloria’s to name a few. Other hang out spots and activities would vary depending on the time of year and weather.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely give credit and shoutouts to my close friends and family for always believing in my vision and pushing me to continue on even when I thought about throwing in the towel (several times). As well as my professors at Wade College for teaching me everything Fashion that did not come naturally to me. The support and development process in this business is imperative for success.
