We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayce and Madison Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayce, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
We at Moxy Photography don’t like to settle, it’s in our name. We have that force of character and determination that pushes through obstacles and drives us to continually improve our skills and craft. It is this resilient spirit that we feel is one of our greatest assets. When we encounter a new challenge, or are faced with a new opportunity, we don’t just say that’s how it is. We say how can we make this better. That drive has pushed us to continually offer new services in different fields. It has pushed us to implement a system that makes shopping with us easy and transparent. It has pushed us to learn new skills and adapt new tools, to ensure our clients have what they need to succeed. This determination and unyielding desire to improve, has pushed us to be better today than we could have hoped to be when we started. And will continue to push us to be better tomorrow than today!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We love taking pictures, everywhere we go we have a camera with us. Since we were kids it has been something we enjoyed. It wasn’t until our friends over at SkyGuys brought it to our attention that we could do it as a living that we realized it was the path for us. It’s been a long road, particularly on the business side. Being new business owners we had a lot of lessons to learn, some of them the hard way, But giving up isn’t what we do. Our goal is to make our clients life easier, and that is not always an easy task.

For our real estate agents we strive to provide a professional experience for the agent, and the homeowner from start to finish.

For our family shoots we strive to have a fun atmosphere that is happy and warm, and loving.

For our commercial shoots we aim to hit the exact shot that our client has in their minds eye.

Each shoot has its unique challenges and unique beauty. We do our very best to minimize the former and amplify the latter. The key to overcoming these is to never stop learning. Keep learning about our clients and their needs. Keep learning about our gear and and the skills we need to offer what our clients needs. One of the services that we are most proud of is our true twilights. These are some of the best images in our portfolio. They are full of dynamic light and warmth. We love shooting twilights!

One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced was having to start over building up our client base after our first year when one of those folly’s of new business ownership came back to bite us. A poorly constructed non-compete, left us with no clients on the anniversary of starting our business. But undeterred we persevered. And built up a new client base all over again. We learned a valuable lesson from that first year, “get things in writing” haha.

If there was one thing that we would want the world to know about our brand it would be that we don’t quit. We don’t quit for us and we don’t quit for you. We’ve got Moxy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Being a husband and wife team we can’t thank our families enough for the support of us taking on this adventure! It’s been 4 years of running Moxy now and having them always in our corner has been a blessing to us!

If it weren’t for them we likely wouldn’t have gotten into this awesome work and being with our family everyday doing something we love, we can never thank them enough! Also Mooreana’s Day Spa in GBC, Lisa and Micayla!! They are a small spa are amazing at what they do!
