We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Wesley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is something that you have to do in order to get out of your comfort zone and continue growing as a person and as a professional…and in order to be innovative. I wouldn’t say to take reckless risks, but there’s a lot that people can bounce back from, so don’t be afraid to get uncomfortable or to miss your target a few times.
When I decided to leave my previous role to start pxld, my husband and I had just had our son and it was a scary decision. My husband is the most amazing stay-at-home super dad, and I did not want that to change; so we made sure we had a healthy savings account and I left. I knew that I had the dedication to put in the work to get this company going – there’s been some stressful weeks, late nights that turned into mornings, and some anxieties here and there; but man it has been worth it.
I literally save 80 hours of commuting each month and I get to see my son and husband pretty much anytime, and we’re working on an eCommerce side of the brand that he’ll be over. Some weeks are insanely crazy, but for the most part I have the best balance of my life and I would do everything it took to get here again.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started pxld as an agency that would put people and relationships in front of billable hours and I’ve worked hard to make that apparent. We treat people with respect and treat their brand with the same care and passion as if it was our own. If a client has a “fire” that they need help with, we do everything we can to help them out. I refuse to nickel and dime our clients because I want them to be happy with what we’re providing and not feel like every interaction is a fee. In turn, I still haven’t spent anything advertising our company – everything has come from a referral (Thank you all so very much!). Treat people well! It makes an enormous difference.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Haha – I have a toddler and own a company, so I don’t get out very often. Recently, we (finally) went to the Toyota Music Factory to see Alicia Keys (OMG…PERFECT!) and the venue was awesome! There are tons of amazing small businesses in Denton – Boca31 has incredible Latin Cuisine, Hoochie’s has tasty seafood, Soma Massage Denton is owned by a seriously incredible woman, and down the road in Flower Mound, Dakota at HIKŌ Beauty Studio will work magic on your hair.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Brian, is the absolute most amazing human. He is my soulmate and my best friend. We’ve been together for going on 14 years and I just can’t get enough of him. He’s been insanely supportive of me and my dreams every single day of our relationship. He’s always cheered me on and he sees no boundaries for what I can accomplish. He’s taught me how to be patient, tone down my spiciness (lol), and how to boundlessly love another human. He is my most comfortable place on Earth and I wouldn’t be nearly as far as I am today in comparison to when I was 22 (when we first started dating) if it weren’t for him. I am so incredibly thankful for him and the abundance he brings to my life. Sorry…I’m ultra sappy about him haha!
