We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, when you are approached by someone at a networking event, what makes you want to connect with someone? What makes you want to avoid them?
Being able to relate to someone, seeing the passion when they speak about what they are there to network for. When I see a person who carries themselves as “better than” anyone else I avoid them because the energy does not match mines. There is a difference between confident and cocky.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I learned that I had a gift at a young age, I am a singer. At a young age I found my voice due to the pain that I was going through in life. I was molested at a young age, singing and music was my comfort .. I would sing songs like Christina Aguilera- The voice within, or Luther Vandross- House is not a home these songs spoke to what I was going through. It was a challenge to be social with other people, but I had to remember not to be a victim of my circumstances and to branch out but stay true to myself. Currently I sing in church, I love being able to give my gift back and use it in a positive way. I currently have an account on gig salad as another way to use my gift. What I would like for others to know about me is that I am very passionate, I believe you shouldn’t do or start anything if it doesn’t feel right. When I sing, it is the most satisfying feeling especially to be able to bless someone else who may be struggling with something.. a great feeling. Help others without expecting something in return

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tate’s bar in uptown is very chill, or Zuri Lounge. I like to go places where the energy feels right and it feels good to have likeminded people around, I absolutely love Cotton Patch Cafe I would eat there everyday if I could lol. Painting with a twist in Mansfield is a very nice place to go if you want a chill vibe, fun with your girls or just with you and bae.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where do I start, I want to thank my mom Elanda Williams for always being there for me no matter what the circumstances are. I want to thank my brother Marvin who has passed on but he had an impact on my life at an early age and pushed me to sing with confidence. I want to thank my brother Marcus for continuing to look out for me even when I didn’t want to listen believe it or not I have gained a new respect for him. I want to thank my church home The Life Church DFW who helps me in ways I could never imagine to be able to have a safe place to praise God and fellowship to no one else but him. I have to thank my friend Rodney he helped me to get back into the church when I left due to self… he helped me to understand my love for God and to be true to myself.. he helped me to get my heart back to the place I lost when my brother passed. Thank you all ❤️
