We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle / Rita Dielle Mallette / Narcisse Broussard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle / Rita Dielle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
While working together at our old firm, we connected with our similar design styles and we looked forward to being paired on the same team. The thought process behind starting Defined ID, LLC. was to showcase our individual artistic talents because in the workplace we felt silenced and unappreciated. We wanted to be able to freely express our love for design through our vision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Is it ever easy? The road to entrepreneurship has been very spontaneous. From the beginning we had challenges that are unusual for most startups. We had to face a worldwide pandemic, we were both laid off from our corporate jobs, and had to build our clientele in an untraditional way. We learned how to navigate our social media platform and promote our design services virtually. This helped us form a confidence that only comes with growth and trial and error. As a brand, we believe that every space features its own individual character, telling a unique story. It is our mission to look beyond the surface, understand the personality of the space, and create a design highlighting it’s true identity. What makes us most proud, is when we are able to leave our clients with a memorable space to interact in and enjoy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If our best friend came to visit, I would take him/her to Bishop Arts for shopping and brunch. Then, take a ride up to The Star to have ice cream at Cow Tipping Creamery and over to Deep Ellum for drinks and a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During our first year of business we had a lot of support from family and friends. We would like to shoutout Jessica and Emily with Pholio Co. They have been very helpful and resourceful throughout our journey thus far. Ashley Bolden, Sopha Rush, and Brittnay Mitchell provided their professional services such as marketing, business content, and photography. We found our greatest encouragement through the support of these individuals and many more.
