We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Genesis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michele Genesis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a personal trainer and a nutritionist I wanted to change the typical approach to the fitness and nutrition industry but also get out of the corporate world and not worry about things like sales goals so I could genuinely help people with their fitness and nutrition needs. You don’t have to cut out carbs, starve yourself, workout hours a day, pay for all these different supplements etc. to reach your health and wellness goals and with the knowledge I have I wanted to share how that could be done. There is so much misinformation out there that confuses people or is essentially said just to push a product and my online fitness and nutrition coaching is all based on science and facts, supported by my knowledge from both my degrees and certifications I have received.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a personal trainer and a nutritionist, I do most of my coaching online through my own app. I started years ago by getting my degree in nutrition, then worked my way towards my NASM personal training certificate. A few years later I went back to school and got my Masters degree in Health Psychology and shortly after that I became certified as a sports nutrition coach.

I really went into this wanting to change how people not only view the fitness and nutrition industry, but to provide programs that work based off of science and stop the misinformation thats so readily available. I wanted to be as hands on as possible, and not be one of those trainers who just sends a PDF or workbook and that’s it, so my programs come with one on one coaching where I am available to my clients 24/7. We track more than just workouts and food, but other areas that impact your health and wellness as well. My programs are also customizable as this isn’t a one size fits all approach and my heart is in everything I do.

It’s been a fun journey being able to coach my clients while growing a brand new buiness. When I first started on this path I didn’t know that this is where it would lead, but I am grateful it did. I was stuck in a job I hated and had all this knowledge and passion I wanted to share and being able to start my own business has been the biggest blessing and the best way for me to do that. It of course comes with its own set of challenges as any new and small business might have, but if you are doing something for the right reasons, you will succeed and I know in time I am going to change this industry for the better.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were coming to visit me, I’m in North Texas so there is a lot to do, but one of our favorite things to do is to take our boat out on the lake and enjoy time on the water. Just bring a few drinks, some snacks a swimsuit and towel and you are in for a fun day! What’s also cool is that there are some good hiking and walking trails around the lakes out here so you can get in a little workout before going out on the lake and enjoying the day.

If it wasn’t a good day for the lake there are so many cool breweries and wineries around. You can’t go wrong doing your own tour around the city and stopping by anything locally brewed or made. Since I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area we would have to eat some good Texas BBQ, stop by the Stockyards for shopping, dancing, eating, and enjoy a night at the rodeo as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has always been my biggest supporter and for that I couldn’t be more grateful, literally couldn’t have done this without him. When I said I wanted to get my degree in nutrition I had people close to me question why I would pursue that/what could I do with that and he has only ever encouraged me to go after what I want. When I left my corporate job a year ago to start my own business, he was the one who pushed me to do that and has taken on a lot of financial responsibility so I could go after my dreams. I feel so blessed to have him through this journey.
