We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Talley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Moving five hours away from home and leaving behind everything I’d ever known was a risk to 17-year-old me. About five years ago, I decided I was going to move to Denton for school. I realized that I wanted more out of life and wanted to experience something different from what I was used to. The journey wasn’t always easy, and there were definitely times when I felt homesick or nervous. But with every step I’ve taken, I’ve gotten closer to my dream, and being here has definitely helped me with my pursuit of music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m just a small-town girl from Amarillo, Texas—right in the middle of nowhere! I’m a singer-songwriter and a full-time college student studying media arts at the University of North Texas. In February, I dropped my very first music video, “Make You Mine,” on my YouTube channel, @micahtalley. I’m already planning my next video and have been writing a ton of new music lately.
My new goal is to bring more rawness and realness into my music. I want to share my true self, the highs and the lows, and connect with people in an honest way. I hope listeners can appreciate this side of me. It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I know this is the direction I need to go to create something real and meaningful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denton
-Sushi Cafe on Fry (literally the best sushi evaaa)
-Zalat Pizza on fry (I love that place so much)
– The square ( we are definitely stopping by Recycled Books Records and CDs!)
– And of course, a little thrifting trip cause Denton has some good pieces.
Dallas
I don’t know thatttt much about Dallas but I know a bit of nightlife.
-Wonderbar (one of my favorite places in Dallas; such a cool environment)
The Ivy Tavern (a chill spot to drink at)
– And we would definitely have to make a trip to Deep Ellum for some live music and good food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my family and friends! Thank you to the people who encourage and love me, even in the times when I can’t encourage or love myself.
