We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody LaMaster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melody, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success by having a good work/life balance, staying to my moral code, and making sure you’re happy with what you’re doing. Success isn’t just about how much money you make, or how you large a company is. Success is about being able to provide for you and your family, while still enjoying what you do and loving the life you’re living; all while being the best version of yourself that you can be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The hardest lesson of all, was finding out that not everybody in the industry will clap for your success. Most of them will, but there are a handful of artists who just view you as competition no matter the circumstance. You have to brush it off, and do your thing!

I got into this industry because I was bullied when I was younger. To this day, I struggle to find the beauty within myself. And that’s why I began this creative, crazy life of a makeup artist. So no woman or man EVER has to feel like that on their wedding day.

I listen to my clients wants/needs. I give them the best look for their personal needs, and highlight their true beauty. Making them feel the best versions of themselves, on such an important day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, first we would grab coffee from Dutch Bros (I’m obsessed) After coffee, we go to the Dallas Farmer’s Market
Once we leave the market, we go to Upstairs Circus. It is a DIY craft bar. Have a bite to eat while we do our crafts, maybe grab a margarita.

After that, we go walk around downtown Dallas and look at all the artwork. Upon the day ending, we go drive the Dallas skyline whenever it’s dark. Taking route 30, coming into Dallas, is just so beyond beautiful at night.

And we would go do it all again tomorrow with different activities, or maybe a day in the pool. We both like to think we’re mermaids lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First & foremost, I wouldn’t be here without Tess & Amber. I was on the brink of quitting my industry, whenever I met these wonderful ladies who helped reignite my passion for the industry!

I would also like to dedicate this to my daughter and my dad. My daughter has taught me more in my life than I could probably teach her. She’s my entire world. As for my dad, he’s never given up on me and has always been so proud of me. Even if I was doing the bare minimum. These two are at the center of support for me.
