We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan L Reilly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan L, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
My company, Tippi Toes, Inc is a children’s dance company and we have 36 franchises around the world. Many people assume that to be a part of our Tippi Toes franchise someone needs to have a dance background, which is not the case. Starting a franchise is a wonderful business opportunity for many people. The key when looking to buy a franchise is to find a company and culture that is supportive, engaged, and moving with momentum. A franchise might offer oil changes or dance classes or food, the actual business doesn’t matter as much as the people behind the business and the systems in place. For those, considering starting a business, consider franchising as a wonderful option. It is the only viable shortcut to owning a successful business. By becoming a franchisee, someone is able to avoid so many of the typical pitfalls of business operations. A franchise allows someone to be the leader, but also have deep support from people who have years of experience and want all franchise owners to succeed.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business and my professional life have evolved organically over the past 20 years. I continue to lean into things that come naturally for me and I work as hard as I can. The combination of using your gifts and tenacity towards goals is a killer combination. You do not need to know how the end of the story will go…you just have to start writing your story! Tippi Toes is different from any other dance company because we focus on supporting the students and schools that we visit in deeper ways than just dance. We provide joy and happiness to communities through our work. The culture within our company is powerful. We have a group of more than 30 women who have run their own companies for 1-12 years and they are all supportive, helpful, engaged, and talented. There is incredible support for all those in our company and these business owners are the ones I would want to have my back and I trust them to continue to spread our brand around the world. For that, I am so proud. The path to 22 years of business success is never easy, but I wouldn’t say it was hard either. The journey has been filled with diligence, perseverance, tenacity, focus, and energy. Some may call it hard, but it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to use my skills along with talents and ideas from others to build a brand that has stood the test of time, brought joy to hundreds of thousands, and brighten the lives of countless children. Challenges are a part of the journey, but I welcome challenges. They present opportunities to learn. I will never make a mistake without learning from it. Not learning from a mistake is far worse than the mistake itself. The lessons I have learned along the way include: 1. There is no substitute for TAKING ACTION. Stop thinking so much and DO!!! 2. Be good to all the people around you. People matter more than anything else and caring for those around you is the right thing to do, but it is also practical business advice. 3. There are no silver bullets. Don’t look for the one thing that will make all the difference…that is a myth. I have experienced very special things like – being on Shark Tank, having a number one album on iTunes, being listed as a Top 500 franchise, selling an international franchise…none of those mean that “I made it,” That is all a part of the journey, and the journey continues. My company, Tippi Toes, Inc is strong and growing and we have continued to grow through every major economic and social crisis over the past two decades. We are strong in business and focused on serving others. The positivity, momentum, and energy that come from our company impact the world in a really positive way, and the customers, franchise owners, and all those who work for and with Tippi Toes and special and important parts of our impact.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Arboretum is a must for anyone visiting the Dallas area! I go with my kids and it never ever gets old! I would also love to go there for a date night! I would go to Standard Service in Heath, TX which is the coolest place to eat with outdoor games, chic fire pits, and amazing food and super cool vibe! I would also go to Zanata in downtown Rockwall, for the best pizza, apps, and chicken and vegetable dish ever! I would hit up Riveria Spa in Dallas right next to lots of great shopping on Knox St.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my partner and sister, Sarah Nuse. Sarah is the founder/CEO of Tippi Toes and she started the company as a sophomore in college. Sarah and I have built Tippi Toes together over the past 19 years. Sarah is the author of Destined for Greatness, host of the Destined for Greatness podcast, she hosts incredible accountability groups that change people’s lives and is a phenomenal leader. Jesse Itzler is a prolific entrepreneur and he has significantly impacted my life over the past 18 months. He is a New York Times best-selling author, and offers incredible opportunities through his business, Build Your Life Resume. His new 24/7 streaming app, BYLR RADIO, is an incredible app for anyone who is chasing big dreams. Most important of all, my husband, Chris Reilly deserves the greatest shoutout ever! Chris has encouraged me, supported me, challenged me, and has made the journey of entrepreneurship, parenthood, podcasting, hosting, speaking, and life an absolute joy!
