Meet Meech Ladd

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meech Ladd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meech, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’ve always considered myself somewhat of a risk taker. I’m not afraid to step outside of my comfort zone because I understand that growth usually requires some level of uncertainty. In my experience, most risks are a 50/50 chance, either things work out in your favor, or you gain valuable lessons that help you move smarter the next time. Risk taking has played a major role in both my personal life and career. Whether it’s pursuing new opportunities, transitioning into new industries, starting my own business ventures, or putting myself in unfamiliar situations, I’ve learned that taking calculated risks has helped me build confidence, resilience, and adaptability.
I don’t view failure as the opposite of success, I see it as part of the process. Every experience teaches me something, and I try to apply those lessons moving forward. Because of that mindset, taking risks has helped me evolve both professionally and personally.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional journey has been rooted in purpose, service, and resilience. I’m a licensed dialysis technician with 10 years of experience, and long before entering this field, I always knew healthcare was where I belonged. I’ve naturally always been a caregiver, someone who finds fulfillment in helping others, offering compassion, and making people feel seen during difficult moments. I actually began my career as a medical assistant, which gave me a strong foundation in patient care, but I knew my calling was greater. I wanted to be more hands on, more involved in critical patient care, and to do work that made a direct life saving impact.
That opportunity came through a close friend of mine someone I attended medical assistant school and church with worked for DaVita. After learning what dialysis was and what her role involved daily, I was immediately intrigued.
For those unfamiliar, dialysis is a life sustaining treatment for patients whose kidneys are no longer able to properly filter toxins and excess fluid from the body. Many patients rely on treatment multiple times a week simply to survive, so this is deeply meaningful work.
I knew I wanted to be part of that journey.
Getting into this field wasn’t easy. In fact, I applied for the same opportunity three separate times before finally getting the interview that changed my life. That alone taught me one of my biggest lessons early on persistence matters. Sometimes the opportunity meant for you doesn’t come immediately, but if you believe in your purpose, you keep showing up until the right door opens.
And even after getting in, the journey still wasn’t easy.
For the majority of my career, my days started around 3:30 in the morning, often ending around 3:00 or 4:00 PM, sometimes later. Dialysis is demanding work not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Training my mind and body to function at that level, at those hours, was a challenge in itself.
At the time, I was also raising a young child, which added another layer of responsibility and sacrifice. Balancing motherhood with a demanding healthcare career required discipline, resilience, and support. I’m incredibly thankful for my mother, who stepped in in such a meaningful way helping care for my son and making sure he got to and from school while I worked those long shifts. Without that support system, parts of my journey would have looked very different.
Ironically, what started as one of my biggest challenges eventually became something I genuinely enjoyed. I learned how adaptable we can be when purpose is attached to what we do.
Over the last decade, I’ve had the honor of caring for countless patients navigating kidney failure, building relationships with people during some of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives.
What sets me apart is that I genuinely lead with heart. I don’t believe in simply showing up to perform a task I believe in creating meaningful connection, trust, and comfort. In dialysis, you become much more than a technician. You become a familiar face, a support system, a source of encouragement, and sometimes even hope.
Because of my dedication, leadership, and experience in the field, I was promoted to Lead Preceptor at my Dallas facility in September of last year, which was a proud milestone for me. That role allows me to mentor and train incoming team members while continuing to serve patients, which has been incredibly rewarding.
Some of my proudest accomplishments aren’t titles, though they’re the relationships I’ve built. It’s seeing my patients’ faces light up when I walk into work. It’s knowing that my presence brings comfort. It’s hearing laughter in a place where life can often feel heavy. That tells me I’m doing more than just my job, I’m making a real impact.
The biggest lessons I’ve learned are perseverance, adaptability, compassion, leadership, and the importance of showing up consistently, even when things feel difficult.
What I want the world to know about me is that I’m someone who leads with purpose, heart, and resilience. Whether I’m caring for patients in healthcare or building something of my own as an entrepreneur, my foundation remains the same: excellence, human connection, intentional service, and creating experiences that leave people better than I found them
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’ve only been in the DFW area for about 2 years and 3 months, I’ll be honest I still feel like I’ve only scratched the surface because this metroplex is HUGE compared to where I’m from. But from the places I have experienced, I could absolutely still put together an amazing week. One place that would be non negotiable is Snowbird Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen. I went there for my birthday last year, and it was such a memorable experience. The food was incredible, the ambiance felt elevated and stylish, and what made it even better was the live music. For me, good food, great music, and an unforgettable atmosphere all in one place is always a win.
For brunch? We’d absolutely have to hit Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles for a fun, high energy brunch experience. Great food, great vibes, music, and just an all around lively atmosphere and full transparency, I may be a little biased since I’m also a server there LOL, but it really is a great time.
I’d definitely add a Dallas Mavericks game to the itinerary because even if you’re not a huge sports fan, the energy is contagious and it’s just such a fun Dallas experience.
Since I appreciate creativity and aesthetics, we’d absolutely spend a day checking out one or two art museums taking in beautiful exhibits, exploring, and making a full day of it.
And because I’m big on creating memories through experiences, we’d definitely mix in
a rooftop lounge night with skyline views and cocktails
shopping, because what’s a girls’ trip without at least a little retail therapy?
maybe a spontaneous “let’s go explore” day in a new part of DFW neither of us has experienced yet
Honestly, my ideal itinerary wouldn’t be about checking off a bunch of tourist attractions it would be about creating a vibe. Great food, music, laughter, beautiful spaces, and memorable moments.
And truthfully? Part of the fun would be exploring DFW together, because I’m still discovering hidden gems myself
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, my story has been driven a lot by self motivation and resilience, because I haven’t always had a huge circle of people pushing me along the way. If I had to give a shoutout, first and foremost it would absolutely be to God. He has always been my rock and my safe place, never leaving nor forsaking me, but continuously leading, loving, and blessing me unconditionally. I have to give a shoutout to my children, Na’Layah, Na’Lah, & Marshawn! They’ve been my biggest motivation in every season of life. They’ve pushed me to think bigger, work harder, and build something meaningful not just for myself, but for them. I’d also like to shout out my bestfriend Chaz, who has been a genuine source of encouragement, support & inspiration especially in this current chapter of my life. And lastly, I also want to give some credit to myself for continuing to show up, take risks, learn, and keep moving forward even when support wasn’t always abundant. I think that resilience has shaped a big part of my story.
