We had the good fortune of connecting with McKinis LaChe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi McKinis, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Risk taking or what I like to call it “faith walking” played a big role in my career. Sometimes you have to do things that may seem strange to others but you know in the pit of your stomach it’s the right move for you. Maybe its l moving to a new place or switching careers and making less money but its your dream job. Transitions and risk are not always comfortable but often worth it to build your career and achieve your goals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey in fashion started when I was about four years old. I was always conscious about what I was wearing and how I looked not because of fashion but entertainment. I was a model and actress as a child. I had no idea my obsession with my appearance would eventually lead me to fashion. It wasnt easy to let go of acting as it took up my whole childhood and young adult life but the connections I made along the way led me exactly where I needed to be. Being new to the game I had to prove myself. That means working for free and going to every event I possibly could just to network and get people familiar with my face. I’ve learned that every opportunity counts. Networking is also a life changer. To me its like shopping, you get an item and you never know when you might wear it but you have it and you won’t forget it. Its Same with connections, you never know when you may need a favor or have to give one. Once you get in specific circles and your name and talent becomes familiar, then you know you’re making progress. What seemed to be overnight success to some is actually years of hardwork and risk taking. I’d like people to know that I survived. All the hardships that came with life I never let go of my dreams and what I knew I was created to do. I want to encourage others to pursue their dreams. Don’t let fear, age, and what people say stop you. Pursuing a dream isnt all about finances and fame, its about happiness 100%.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Deep Ellum is one of my favorite spots in Dallas,Tx. You have cool bars, food and music. Although Deep Ellum has cool boutiques I’d definitely take them to Northpark Mall in North Dallas also one of my favorite places. Last but not least, Arlington. Definitely a fun zone there’s food cool lounges and six flags!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a list of people I always want to recognize for the help and mentorship I received. They gave me a chance and allowed me to be my creative self. Jan Strimple Askia Fountain Mel Testamark Stats Nate Gilbert
