We had the good fortune of connecting with Mcglauthon {mac} Fleming Iii and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi McGlauthon {Mac}, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
So my journey began back in 2012 with a young man named Mr. Raekwon Stafford (God Bless The Dead) who said, “Yo, Mr. Fleming III, who’s this MLK dude I keep hearing about, and is he from Canada? At that exact moment, I knew I needed to devise a way to make learning ANY kind of information fun so that the people on the receiving end would be engaged and retain the information. I went through several different iterations and pivots over the last 12 years. It started with a non-profit that was formed to teach Black History in the performing arts space. I quickly realized it wouldn’t be sustainable because schools only wanted to seek my services during February. I got heavy into trivia right after in 2015, which led me to find out there were other games that people would like to play, where they could learn and have so much fun that they wouldn’t realize they were learning! With a few tweaks, lots of prayer, and lots of trial and error with the “gamivities” (as I call them), I could begin taking Ubiquitii across the country and receive great feedback! It took some years, but here I am!
What should our readers know about your business?
Ubiquitii Educational Solutions creates lively edutainment experiences that build community! Our mission is to provide the public at large with curated, engaging experiences that allow for a time of edutainment, fun, reflection, and community building through games and activities.
We work hard to engage all of the participants of our curated events, so what sets us apart is that we use the three foundational learning methods (tactile, auditory, and visual) in each experience to ensure maximum engagement.
Building this business has been difficult, to say the least! Budget cuts in schools have really affected the services we offer, but with some creativity, we are looking at alternative ways of getting our message of community building out to the nation!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Trinity Groves, Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Nakia A. Fleming, and I have been married for 19 years, and she should get credit for every conversation I’ve needed when I’m frustrated about business, every notch in the success column, and every triumphant moment. She has listened to me, given me wisdom, attended events and conferences without fail, and made sure that I have my time for business and the time I need to decompress from business.
I love the life she’s helped me build, and I’m excited about the chapters of life that we’re working toward right now! She’s the real MVP!
