We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Borjas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is always a choice. You either take or don’t…. I feel like everyday I take a risk with my, kids, employees, business and personal life. I think the risk that I have takin throughout my years for a stylist has made me who I am. Definitely has impact my life for the good and the better.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a stylist for over 14 years, a salon owner for nearly 6 years and a new business partner for 1 year. I feel like what sets me aside, is that i am a single mother with 2 very busy active teens and a 4 year old, doing it all by myself. It has definitely been a challenge owning a small business and being a stylist at the same time. However lessons are being taught on a daily, which i feel has mad me successful. The Orange Salon is a gem stone in my neighborhood of Deep Ellum. It has been there since 2001 and i am the fourth owner that took over. It’s been publish in several magazines for many hair talent techniques. My job is to keep my small salon known for its best of. To have my clientele comfortable and happy with their service and hair. I want them to know that they will always have the best professional stylist working on their hair with the best products.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When looking for a good fun time in Dallas I would say there are quit some options. One up and coming town that seems to be the attraction is Deep Ellum. Starting with brunch at All Good cafe, Buzz Brews, Cafe Brazil. Knocking out some adult beverages at Anvil Pup, Brain Dead or Hide. Then to get your hair clean and glamorous with a smooth, sexy blowout style at The Orange Salon. Where we have our garage door open, welcoming anyone and everyone! Come evening time, the night light of Deep Ellum brightens up with neon colors. Roaring coming from cars; bumper to bumper that are lined up looking for parking. As the lines flood up at the bars and clubs. Beautiful people walking up and down the streets, bar hoping, having a great time jamming to the music that flare all in Deep Ellum. Dallas is one city that everyone wants to try and explore.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
At the beginning of my career I have had wonderful stylist that mentor me, teach me their great techniques and give me full of encouragements. I appreciate each and every one of them. My daughters (Lilly, Vivian) and son (Evan) are my closes love, care and support. They are who keeps me thriving, to work hard on having more for my business. All of my physical and emotional love and support also come from my mother, sister, and father. In all of my years of being a stylist/salon owner I have to say that i could have never done this without faith in my god, without all the prayers and all the love!
