We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Farley Illia Tumanov and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Farley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Several years ago Illia and I took our risks, to move from our native countries Ukraine and Russia, to the US. We didn’t have any friends or relatives here. It was overwhelming but engaging. New places, new people, language, culture, food – everything. But new is always better if we are not talking about whiskey.

We both were happy to find any job and work hard, learn something new. Some people spend years only planning, we prefer accomplishing. Without taking risks we would never meet each other and would never decide to build IMSpaces.

What should our readers know about your business?
IMSpaces is more than just a space to create art, our vision is to make it a canvas for collaboration, photoshoots, events and workshops for everyone. Most photo studios offer the special equipment and the space, but don’t have the beautiful interior design as a backdrop. Our space comes with a selection of carefully curated furniture pieces to create the mood. We got the idea of this kind of space from Europe, and decided to bring it to Texas. It wasn’t easy to find the right space, so it took us around three month of researching commercial places for lease, Fort Worth is a hot area right now to open a new business. Finally we found Historic Max Mehl Building, and it’s beautiful outside, but we had to do a lot of work inside. We did all the construction by ourselves, from removing old commercial carpet and installing hard wood floors to reconstruction of old windows. We learned how to do it, because neither of us had any experience in doing construction work. The war in Ukraine started, hard work helped us to keep our mind straight and united us in building something new together for the best. Having each other as a partner is a true blessing.
