We had the good fortune of connecting with Marguerite Knowles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marguerite, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started attempting to sell my artwork on Etsy in 2017, but decided that I needed a smaller, less expensive product that was more accessible for clients. I noticed a lot of small businesses around me were creating stickers, but I wanted something that I could hand make. That is when I settled on greeting cards! I started selling them in 2020, and about a year ago began printing them as the volume was just too much to continue handmaking every card! (I still offer a custom handmade option though!) Originally from Dallas, I now live in London and continue to sell my greeting cards in both locations, frequently participating in small business markets and craft fairs here in London. I have also recently began selling other stationery products such as notecard sets, gift tags and notepads.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I design (and sometimes still handmake) greeting cards and stationery. I aim to make my designs as colourful, creative and light-hearted as possible, for any and all occasions. I design mainly small animals but do have some birthday cake and floral motifs, but I am mostly proud of my animals! I think my passion for my products sets me apart from others, I really focus on creating things that make me happy rather than trying to follow trends. Sometimes that can be quite difficult when I design something that I love but maybe others don’t. But I think my passion for my business comes through in my products!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would absolutely take them to Bird Bakery and The Mermaid Bar at Neiman Marcus for lunch, and Rise No 1, Tolouse and Hudson House for dinner. We would also have to take a day to go to the Kimbell Art Museum!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother definitely deserves some credit! I now live in London, but I still have clients and orders in Dallas. I keep an inventory of products in Dallas, and my mother is always willing to deliver orders and do post office runs as needed! She is a big help in the Dallas side of my business.
