We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy Hancock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mandy, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I read this book years ago and it completely changed my life by helping me change the way I react to things. It’s a short, easy read but with profound content. It basically boils down to these Four things and how every single negative emotion we have can be helped with at least one of these agreements. 1. Do not make assumptions 2. Always do your best 3. Be true to your word 4. Do not take things personally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I stay busy taking care of my wonderful guests. One of the things that sets me apart is that I whole heartedly LOVE what I do. I am so passionate about taking care of people and I make it my daily goal to have my guests not only look better but FEEL better after their time with me. I truly care about my clients and what is going on with them in their lives. They know that my chair is a safe space. Many laughs have been had, many tears have been shed. Life has so many ups and downs and they know that they have a sacred space that they can just be themselves, no judgment, and share ANYTHING they want or need while knowing that it won’t be repeated. Leaving with great hair is a no-brainer but leaving with a feeling of relief, hope and a positive outlook is truly a form of art that can’t necessarily be taught or bought.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fort Worth is chalk full of fun things to do and amazing places to eat! It is a city of culture, art, music, great food and friendly people. Here’s a list of some of my favorite places, restaurants and events: Botanic Gardens, Stock Yards, Amon Carter Museum, Modern Museum, Kimball Museum, Fort Worth Zoo, Gifted, Hale House, Near Southside District, South Main District, Casa Mañana Theater, Amphibian Theater, Sundance Square, Scatt Jazz Lounge, Joe T. Garcia’s, Ellerbe Fine Foods, Lili’s Bistro, Cannon Chinese, Tokyo Café, Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival, Concerts in the Gardens, Magnolia on the Green, Arts Goggle and Open Streets. We’d definitely have to take a little day trip down to Glen Rose and walk around the town square, have lunch at the Green Pickle or Sugar Biscuits, then dessert at Shoo Fly Soda Shop. Maybe check out Dinosaur Valley and Big Rock Park and if it’s spring time enjoy all the Texas wildflowers on the way to and from the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First shoutout has to go to my husband, Andrew. He is my biggest fan and cheerleader. He encourages me to always go for whatever dream I’m having even if it means time and energy away from the family. He is the one who suggested I open my own salon and he was over the top excited when I expressed interest in becoming a Childbirth Educator. He is my biggest supporter without a doubt. Next shoutout absolutely has to go to my clients. They are the motivation and quite literally the reason for my success. I have been doing hair for almost twenty years and have experienced so much life with them. They have followed me to multiple different locations, waited on me through three different maternity leaves (soon to be four) and have always stayed loyal. Now some of them have even hired me to be their birth coach! I love sharing our journeys all while I get to make them look and feel beautiful.
