We had the good fortune of connecting with Makaela Etheridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makaela, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Being an Esthetician specializing in full body waxing specialist, I am usually very energetic and enjoy interacting with my clients. However, by the end of the day, I am often tired. It took me several years to develop a balance between my work and personal lives. For me, balance is setting clear boundaries between my work hours and personal time. I dedicate time to administrative work such as emails, texts, and Instagram messaging until 9 p.m. After that, I don’t engage in work-related activities until the next morning at 9 a.m. I have two days off, one of which is the Sabbath I use to rest and spend time with the Lord. On that day, I avoid looking at work content and responding to work-related messages. This weekly practice has proven beneficial for my well-being, allowing me to give my all without feeling exhausted. Before, I prioritized work and would rest only when I had spare time, which led to an imbalance between my work and personal life, eventually leading to symptoms of burnout. Time is invaluable, and I’ve learned to be intentional every single day.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been an esthetician for eight years and have been specializing in full body waxing for seven. I decided to open Wildflowers and Grace Studio almost two years ago, which is so crazy to think that I have had my own business for that long already. If I am being honest I am not sure if I feel that I know a ton about how to run a business properly. I am still learning daily, and I always tell people that waxing and talking to people is the easiest part of owning a business for myself. Doing social media and all the admin work is something I am still striving to be excellent in. I feel that I have made it this far because of God and my family, friends, and clients. It has not been easy! I pretty much started over with having to get new clientele, I am blessed that I had old clients who had found me and followed from my previous company. Google and clients referrals have been a big help to me in overcoming that particular challenge. I have learned to keep praying and speaking life into my business. Take on each day as it comes and not to worry about the next. Keep like-minded people around me, ones who believe in the same things I do, and ones that will call me higher daily. Wildflowers and Grace Studio is a place where you can come and know that I will give you my very best work, and know that you walk out making a friend. I have always told my clients that I am a great waxer but I feel that you come for my personality and conversation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am probably the most simple gal you will meet, however I love me some coffee and some could say that I think it makes a great breakfast. The two coffee shops that I am a regular at are Crude and Amperstand and they have some yummy treats as well. I love a good affordable steak and Texas roadhouse has not let me down yet! I love shopping for makeup and shoes, so you can find me at Sephora, Ulta, and the Vans store. I like going on a run/walk on the trinity trail near Clearfork then after that I will sometimes stop at mutts which is right on the trail to grab some french fries and ranch because it the best post walk/run meal you can have. I am involved in church so you can catch me at the Mercy Culture Dallas campus on Sundays.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge reason I am able to do what I do is because of my relationship with the Lord and knowing God’s truth has kept me grounded and gave me a sound mind. Big shout-out to my parents, they have really supported me through one of my toughest seasons. Shoutout to dad for taking every single phone call when I felt overwhelmed and unsure, you really are the best dad a gal could ask for. Thankful for my sweet friends who have prayed over me and my business, grateful for a few of my fellow wax gals who gave me sound advice and answered all the questions I had when I decided to go out on my own. Last but not least super thankful for my clients who have turned into my family and friends. Thank y’all for rebooking, referring, and for trusting me and giving me an opportunity to be your waxer.
