We had the good fortune of connecting with Madiha Khan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madiha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been very creative in designing small events and interior decor. I did my bachelors in Secondary education but never wanted to persue this carrier seriously. I knew I wanted to do something more fun creative that makes me happy. Eleven years ago I did my daughter’s first birthday and realized that my mind is full of creativity. I made every favor, welcome card, thank you notes with my own hands . The number of appreciation and wows I received form the guest was price less and that when I thought that I wanted to continue this and slowly Got to where I’m.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a mother of 2 beautiful kids and I do wedding designing . initially I started it as a hobby and ended up starting my own business. I spend many hours with my clients in person and on zoom meeting to capture their vision and bring it to reality. Every client comes with different sets of ideas and challenges . We strive very hard to meet their demands and always bring their dreams to reality. Sometimes things get very challenging between work and family but im lucky to have na amazing team that stands by me in every challenge.
it’s not easy to start any business . I had went through many challenges and phases where I just wanted to quite. There was something in me that kept me going . I worked very hard day and night . Sometimes we don’t sleep or eat on time to meet the deadlines. Every event has a given timeline that we have to follow as decorator. There are so many behind the scenes tasks that we do before each event that gets ignored by the clients. Mostly the southasian weddings end at 12am or 1am . MY team is always there for the tear down on time. With multiple events this can become very hard. Once the client is happy and content that’s when we get the real reward and happiness and I have worked very hard to get to this point. Hard work really pays when you see the smile on the clients face.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m always so surrounded by my kids and work that I hardly have time to hangout . I grew up In NYC where the life is very different from Dallas. There are more choices in NYC to explore and I can name them at finger tips. I Love Dallas as well but I feel like there are only few hangout spots that can entertain your guest such as Shops at Legacy in Plano, Frisco star, downtown dallas area and highland village.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband who’s my mentor and my best friend !
