We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Grace Yan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lydia Grace, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose a career in Makeup/hair artistry because of my passion for creativity and anything related to playing dress up. It started when I was young… stealing my own mother’s makeup and playing with it any chance I could get. Fast forward to high school, I realized that makeup and hair could actually be a good source of income while also fulfilling my passion. Since then I have been working all over DFW and surrounding areas providing makeup and hair services on different Beauty teams and serving my own clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting fresh out of school (2021) in the Wedding Industry providing hair and makeup services was not easy. Most Beauty teams in the DFW are very experienced artists that have 5+ years of experience. It took a lot of emails, messages, and phone calls in order to get my name out there and start working on a team. I was let down many times before anyone was willing to take a chance on me. Once I got my first message back, I was able to start working with another talented artist in the industry (Amanda Marie Makeup Artistry) who guided me to the right teams. Since then, I have worked on 4+ teams at a time, one being voted the top wedding hair and makeup team in DFW for years now (Lip Service). I have also been able to build a clientele through word of mouth, outside of beauty teams, which has been such a blessing!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a Grapevine, TX resident, I highly recommend any food/ drink along main street! You can’t beat the close-knit family friendly atmosphere that Grapevine holds. Of course I have to recommend anything from Kilwin’s on main street. You will find the most amazing ice cream and caramel apples you’ve ever had! (My mom and sister are co-owners of Kilwin’s)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started in this industry with another artist (Amanda Marie Makeup Artistry) who has been such an amazing artist to look up to and seek guidance from. As soon as I graduated Beauty school, I reached out to her, and have been working with her since then! I also would like to shoutout my amazing family and friends who have been so supportive through schooling and all other journeys in this industry. I could not do this without any of them!
