We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I’ve made that contributed to my success was investing in education. I have always believed that it takes more than talent to make a creative endeavor work. Talent is a GREAT jumping off point, but without direction, you end up wandering aimlessly wasting time and resources. In order to be successful you have to have a deep understanding of the subject matter you are promoting, and an understanding of how that influences, affects, and informs your client. Giving my talent a purpose and vision began with mastering my craft. Every bit of what I earned when I first started out went into building on that foundation. I took makeup courses, and earned a certification in elite level makeup artistry. I bought second hand textbooks from ebay from some of the top makeup schools in the country because I’m a stay at home mom and I was not going to be able to go back to full-time school in order to further my studies. Next I needed to learn about running a business. I wanted to be a makeup artist in the Wedding industry, so I knew I needed to be educated in the specifics of how Weddings work and how my business would fit into that industry. I relentlessly researched the internet and Instagram accounts looking for beauty pros who had their wedding businesses running smoothly, and was able to find one who offered a mentorship opportunity. This took my business to the next level because I learned from her experience what worked – and what didn’t. What a game changer! Having people walking along side you as you are growing your business is such an asset. You need people you learn from AND people who learn from you. The entire process of investing in myself through education helped me to grow not only my business, but also myself.

Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
Ask any group of women if they like their girl time and they will, without hesitation, say it’s one of the highlights of their life. Our girl squads are so special, and not only do I get to come into our Bride’s inner circle on their wedding day, I also get to bring along mine! I am most proud of being successful enough to build a team of amazing artists and women who lift each other up, and make our clients feel like a million bucks. Because seriously – it’s not just about the makeup and hair – it’s about how we make our Bride’s feel when they’re with us and how we make them feel about themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live wayyy out in the country, so the places to go are outside! We’d go swimming and hang out at the beach by the Lake, ride go karts on our land, and hang out with a cocktail and s’mores around a camp fire at night. If we really wanted to get crazy we’d drive 30 minutes to the “big city” of crossroads, TX to get gluten free pizza at Palio’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my friend Leah Laviano, the owner of Blushtones in Virginia. She is my makeup artist hero. I have been encouraged by her, studied under her (she taught me how to airbrush) and can honestly say crossing paths with Leah was a turning point in my artistry and business. She is kind and an incredibly talented artist and business woman. She truly cares about education and beauty.
