We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have been creating art and jewelry since I was a little kid. I love working with all types of mediums. I have ADHD so the whole creative process behind a project quiets my mind. It has been a really great outlet for to stay busy and express myself since I began my journey to recovery back in 2017.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to use bright colors in all of my art and jewelry. I create things that are playful and remind me of things from my childhood. My granddaughter inspires a lot of the children’s items that I make. During the pandemic I started baking and it became my full time job. I really enjoyed the creative aspect of designing cakes and cookies. Durning this time my mom had to have a few surgeries and I needed something where I could be more present to help take care of her so my sister suggested resin art. I taught myself how to make molds and work with resin. I also started painting and designing jewelry. That’s when Neon Candy Art was born. It hasn’t always been easy. I’ve never had formal artistic training so there has been a lot of trial and error. It takes a lot practice and patience but I think that’s true with anything new. I’m a perfectionist so that is hard to do sometimes. I struggled with addiction for most of my 30’s. That led me to loosing everything and having to start my life completely over at 40. Through my journey I have learned it’s never too late to start over or to try something new. Don’t be afraid of failure because it’s all part of the process. I’m living proof that with hard work and God anything is possible.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely would not be where I am today without the love and support of my mom. She has been my biggest cheerleader and helped me in more ways than I can count. She was a single mom and showed me and my sister what resilience and strength looked like. She has showed me unconditional love and never judged me through all of my life struggles. She also has showed me tough love when she needed to so I could find my own strength. She is also very creative and artistic and has always allowed us to be who we are. She taught us to treat others the way you want to be treated. She never complains even when she’s going through her own struggles. She will drop everything she’s doing to help anyone that needs her. She is funny and makes me laugh when I’m struggling and says “it will be fine” and somehow she’s always right. I am forever grateful that I get to call her Mom.
